For the best, he was never really given a chance of a run of games. I suspect he may do quite well down there. We need to get another forward in as a couple of injuries or suspensions and we would be very short

Agreed.

Be interesting to see what kind of player Lennon replaces him with. Another big Dave type striker? More pace? A number 10? We'll have a great squad by the time the window closes IMO.

Is he not keeping a place open for Commons? Sure it was mentioned that he will sign for us once he has fully recovered from his back injury.

Ideally I'd like to see us sign a LW. Someone that can offer us pace and width and can also beat a man.

All the best big guy and at least it's a move to a club that cannot hurt us domestically.

Frees up a wage for something later in the window me thinks. Player's get offered round left right and centre towards the end of the month so hopefully something decent crops up. Left winger please

Good news for all parties. I was skeptical when he joined but he did a decent job for us when called upon and gave 100%.

Definitely had worse strikers and some of the stick he got was very unfair.

Hope we get a left winger in (Morgan from St Mirren please).

Can we afford to be paying more wages, not saying we don't have money, just that we don't want to go breaking the bank?

sambajustice
10-08-2017, 07:26 AM
You'd expect if one goes one would come in - usually in the same position.

However, if Lennon sees Boyle as a striking option then we have our 4 strikers and maybe the space will be filled with an attacking midfield type who can chip in with a few goals!

If this Slivka is the real deal and Commons does come, we've got a pretty serious squad!

I just wonder if NL will go for a midfield enforcer - a Bartley Mk2. If Big Marv gets injured or suspended, we're struggling for someone else to fill that role. Makes more sense to me than another striker.

Whether NL would go that route I couldnt say but I've had similar thoughts along those lines myself. There is a bit of a gap in the squad there should Marv be ruled out for a period of time. Our midfield generally is far better with the ball than without it and Marv is a huge player for us when we are put under pressure.

Fair point - unfortunately, Hendo comes with a 300K+ price tag...Commons comes with no transfer fee..and a desire to get into coaching...quite different signings..

You're right they are different. One offers a short term option on the park with perhaps something to offer in a coaching capacity going forward, the other offers great potential on the pitch for seasons to come. I think the club will also be thinking ahead and giving some thought to post Super John, which like it or not is a situation we will face in the next 12 months. As Leann said in her piece posted on here the other day, players in and players out is part of the game and something we cant avoid and need to deal with. With that in mind, although a different sort of midfield option perhaps Hendo offers more than Commons. Personally I would be happy to have either at the club.

I quite liked Graham.

He's a better player than many gave him credit for.

He came in, did a job and knocked his pan in every time he got on the pitch.

If he'd been happy to stay as a backup I'd have been happy to hold onto him but I suspect he wants to play more.

Good luck to him.

He was clearly never seen as a main striker and was never going to be, but just the kind of player you bring on when you are chasing a game, hard working and tall. Its clear though that after Cummings and Keatings left he was still not going to be a starter as NL signed three more strikers.

Fans will never be down on a player who gives his all when he comes on and Brian Graham certainly did that .... good luck to him, hope he scores a barrow load dahn sarf :aok:

Not convinced we will get a striker to replace BG - they must have planned to move him on if the other signings came through I reckon.

Plus, the signings we have must surely have used up all the ST and HSL (and direct share sales) money available.

Plus, Shaw hasn't been put on on loan, (has he??), so maybe he will be the spare striker for emergencies. I would certainly like the young players (O Shaw, F Murray and B Porteous) to stay close to the team and not go out on loan.

I must say I thought Graham was pretty poor. We watched him in the warm up at Dunfermline in the second half of last season and he must of had 10 shots laid on to him with no defenders and he didn't score once. Certainly gave everything so can't complain there.

Happy to go with Oli Shaw as our fourth choice striker, don't forget it took Jason a good amount of appearances before he finally broke his goal scoring duct.

The thing I remember most from him wasn't a goal but the header he won against Falkirk at ER with a couple of minutes to go. Great header deliberately flicked on to Keatings who curled one in to the top corner and effectively the league was over that day. Thanks for the efforts big man

I'll remember him for the last goal against Morton when we beat them 4-0, it was one of the best team goals of last season IMO. It didn't work out for the big guy, but he certainly wasn't the worst striker we've had, and I hope it works out for him down south.
