As the title says, what is your starting XI this Sat against Partick Thistle? Very hard on who to pick and who to leave out as we now have a very good squad! Good problem to have though.

Bartley
McGinn

Boyle
S. Murray

Would go with that to be honest. The two Liths and obviously Stokes are behind in match fitness, so play the strongest and fittest team available

That would be my choice as well, need to give stokesy time to get match fit. Full confidence that team will give us a win. :agree:

Probably don't want to risk starting him yet.

Could be Stevenson since he has been here way longer than the others. Whittaker could be a shout but he's a new arrival so maybe McGinn

Will Whittaker be first choice rb or does gray come back against the rangers, imo if Whitty does well against thistle it's his to keep/lose.

Paul not ready to start I don't think.

On the bench but probably won't come on unless required urgently.

Interesting that Stokes said earlier he'd be fit to play this weekend.

In terms of a starting 11, it's a tough one to call, I'd maybe go with the following:-

Marciano
Whittaker
Stevenson
Efe
Fontaine
Bartley
McGinn
Vik
Boyle
Murray
Swanson (possibly stokes if fit)

I'd go with that, or maybe Hanlon for Fonts if he's ready to start. We might get 60-65 minutes out of him.

Marciano, Whittaker, Ambrose, Hanlon, Stevenson, Boyle, McGinn, McGeouch, Bartley, Swanson, Dave.
Leaving out our main goal scorer and playing an unfit centre half certainly shows confidence.

I think Bartley is a certainty to play but Fontaine worries me - he is far too slow. Is a half fit Hanlon better? - not sure but something I would definitely consider.

was torn between Slivka & Swanson. Put Slivka down as he really impressed me on Saturday but would be equally pleased if Danny started and Slivka was on the bench.

Harsh on Fontaine that. Good player who would play for the majority of the teams in our league. Says a bit about our squad that he's probably 4th choice centre half now. No need to gamble on Hanlons fitness when we have him.

Not sure on the fitness of Hanlon, and not sure where Lennon rates the new Lithuanian signings or how fit/match fit Stokes is, so with that in mind I think:

Marciano
Whittaker Ambrose Fontaine Stevenson
McGinn Bartley McGeogh Swanson
Boyle Murray

I think having Gray, McGregor, Hanlon, Slivka, Dave, and Stokes still available to add - and probably all likely to gain first team status - that we will get stronger as we go after Saturday!

Still don't think we should have played McGregor and Gray at the end of the season and allowed them to pick up suspensions though :greengrin

I must be watching a different player then Allan because the Fontaine I have watched this season is struggling for pace. He has had some great games for us and I like him but feel that he will be found wanting this season. Saturday is the game a decision has to be made as McGregor will be back for Ibrox. Lenny will get it right as he sees them in training every day

I actually agree. I like Fontaine and he has been very good this pre season imo, but his time here has seen a fair few charges out of defense with the ball only to have it nicked off him and he doesn't have the pace to recover (Simon Murray did it to him in the game they won at Tannadice)!! In the 3-0 Morton game their winger actually ran round the outside of him to cross the ball at one point. When he stays put and sticks to the basics he's very good, it's when he is caught out of position/decides to go on a mazy I get nervous!!

Agree with the first team listed on the thread - but the really encouraging thing is that, even with Gray and McGregor suspended and Stokes not match fit, we still have so many options.

Exciting times.

4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 with mcgeouch on the left and Swanson middle of the 3. Honestly so many options in system and players toile a whole to decide who to leave out, think it's between having 1 centre half on the bench, crane or Scott martin

To be honest I think all the teams listed are pretty good, although my preference would be the OP's

Whatever the team, I think we need to set our intentions for the season, I want us to show everyone that we are a top quality team and that means putting the Jags to the sword and not letting up on them until they wave the white flag and even then. Nothing personal against them, I actually quite like them, but a good performance and a really good result will give everyone the confidence needed to build a strong challenge.

C'mon the Cabbage!

Going to be a tough game, think Thistle will sit in early doors, hit us on the counter attack. Think Lennon will set his team up to deal with this
