Can anyone tell me if the West of Scotlands current cricket ground at Hamilton Crescent is the same venue that hosted the first Scotland England game? On the same playing area?

Yep, that's true. And the first rugby international was played opposite the ground in Stockbridge in edinburgh at edinburgh Accies.
