True. I've just checked the tables and there are already 4 teams placed 2nd in their groups with more points than Hearts. A Dunfermline win sees Hearts continue their long, long wait to win the League Cup. If Hearts draw and then get beat on pens it's almost certain they'll be out as well.

Really enjoyed ER tonight. Really feel that we've got something about us this season, like the second McLeish season after promotion.

I thought we were poor in the first half....treating it like a training match. 2nd half much more professional. Work rate from Murray and Boyle was exceptional. Ryan P is going to be a top class player for us in years to come.

I appreciate what you're saying, we were far too casual in front of goal and at the back. But the lead up play the whole game was excellent, and I loved watching us.

Didn't really get out of second gear, and yet we still should have won 7-1.

If we were putting away the chances in the first half it would have been double figures tonight. Boyle missed 2 sitters, Murray and Swanson.

Very good performance overall. For some reason I have my doubts that Simon Murray's going to be as effective in the top flight but he's got the attitude and work rate bang on and would be happy if he can get 10-12 league goals this season.. Delighted for young Porteous, he's a talent.

He deserves to be starting games just now, but he won't get the same opportunities, time or space vs a St Johnstone or a Partick. Absolutely deserves to start every game but don't think we should load expectation onto him as honestly, I think 10-12 goals for him this season would be a success, then looking at 15-18 in season two.

I've long said that I'd rather have an average player with a very good attitude than a very good player with an average attitude, in the Scottish game attitude and putting yourself about the pitch counts for a lot.

As it is, Simon Murray is a decent to good footballer with a top class attitude and it'll see him well. I like him.

Other than terrible finishing and a couple of dubious offside decisions I thought they played well in the first half, except the horror show for their goal.

Whittaker was excellent in midfield and we are moving the ball much quicker than we have in the past

The acid test will come when we don't get such easy possession, but up to now I have been very pleased with our pre-season and with our new recruits and the boys stepping up from the under 20's

Frightening to think Porteous will still be developing physically as well. I wonder what odds you could get on him earning Hibs a record fee when he moves on.

We need to get some weedkiller on the running track in front of the East. It is starting to look shabby.

Yeh i just thought we were sloppy especially infront of goal..it had a right smell of a friendly about it.....empty stadium, players knocking the ball about easy. If we had been more compared we could have been 4 up at half time. Always room for criticism.... :wink:

Swanson has an exceptional touch. He's trying too hard and needs to relax in my opinion.
Couple of times last night he snatched at penalty box chances where if he had shown the composure he does under pressure halfway up the park......

I totally agree, I thought that Swanson had some lovely touches but he looked like he was trying a bit too hard at times.

If his penalty had gone in that might have settled him.

He's going to be a very good player for us.
