County have the advantage of playing a part time team only 3 days after that team played another top league side. They won't be as fit as the county players and will have found the quick turnaround of the games fairly tough at this stage of the season so it's not a massive surprise county are winning by a good few.

Very, Lafferty and Goncalves trying some clever stuff but they struggled to make simple passes when they got forward. All shots bar goal were straight at keeper

My dad likened it to a friendly last year against Inverness and I dunno if I'd go that far but can definitely see them struggling at the moment

True but weren't they bottom on points from the point Cathro took over last season?

I don't think they'll end the season in a relegation battle, but how high they end up depends on when Cathro is sacked. I don't think "if they sack him" is needed here either

Hearts are trying this 3-4-3 shape

Berra is a big player for them now but lacks speed along with Hughes. But brings experience and organisation / leadership they lacked.

The left back from Man City looks ok. Right back not sure yet.

Cowie is decent with ball but not got engine to do full box to box at high intensity.

Walker - hope he leaves them. Will cause opposition teams trouble with his dribbling / diving and will score goals.

Lafferty - jury is out

Goncalves - probably there best current player - gets involved - lays things off etc. But he's looking pretty heavy and tires during games.

Weakness right now is the keeper and central midfield - not sure the 3-4-3 experiment will last - as Newcastle showed with a quick attack it can cause issues (Boyle / Murray for example).

Haymaker

I don't know what you mean by that, but I don't think they will sustain their success once McInnes leaves if that's what you're getting at. As a club they were in a very similar position to us when he was first appointed and I think they've fluked getting a good manager in rather than having a structure in place like we do. Once he goes I can't see their being a continuity personality wise, I reckon they'll just take a punt on someone and hope for the best. Their track record for managers prior to him was every bit as poor as ours.

Don't agree. They were up against utter dross and still needed to dig deep. Should really have put them to bed in the first leg. We were better than them when we played them and I would say we have strengthed overall on that team while they have arguably dipped slightly. Don't see us having any problems matching them this season.

Dont get this thought that the dons are way better than us. I think second to fifth in the SPL will be between us sevco the dons and hertz with st Johnstone not far behind. The dons may well finish second but I don't think we will be that far away from them.Weve shown in cup games over the last 3 seasons we have more than matched the spl teams. Obviously we now have to do that over a whole season. As long as we don't suffer as bad as we did last season with injury and we get stokesy or whatever other striker fit and scoring then I'd be disappointed if we weren't challenging around fourth. Genuinely excited about the season as the squad looks better by the week and sevco and hertz still look poor sides to me at the moment although there is still 6 weeks of the transfer window to go.

Well done to the Sheep. Very good result and performance.

Galatasaray knocked out by Östersunds from Sweden. They were playing in the 4th tier of Swedish football not that long ago!

Amazing result for the sheep.

Watched the 2nd half and they deserved the win. Had some really good chances before they got the opener.

Tbh they're streets ahead of us imo. Not to say we can't reach that level but they've consistently finished 2nd through blowing teams away and grinding out results. Something we've not done in the top flight for about 10 years!!

I look forward to battling them and on our day we've proven we are a match for them but we shouldn't be basing our season on where we finish in comparison to Aberdeen

They didn't look streets ahead of us in the last two season's when we played them.

Aberdeen are rightly regarded as the 2nd best side in the country, as they have done what nobody else has, and beaten the smaller sides more regularly than the others.

We have struggled over the years to do this, and in the end resulted in us being relegated.

We need to find a way of doing this now, we have a manager who's a winner, he won't accept slackers, I hope we give him the tools to do the job.

4th place would be success this year, anything better would be fantastic.

Rich guy pumping in millions to get second best.

I think people are a bit premature on the impact of their new director. He talked of investment but moreso bringing his financial expertise to help them maximimise new revenue streams and complete a stadium move. I don't believe he will be "pumping in millions".

There's no evidence that their wage bill will be any higher this year than last. I don't see why Tansey, GMS and Christie (on loan remember) will be paid any higher on aggregate than Jack, McGinn and Hayes were.

Aberdeen like Hibs benefitted from a major debt write off but since then they've done great job of getting value for money. And like Blackpool says, punching their weight by beating the lesser teams.

No reason financial or otherwise that Hibs can't compete with them, albeit they're a few years further into a management team who have done a great job

Their turnover is much greater than ours with less punters through the door. They must be doing something different other than recruitment of staff. It might be down to something as different as prize money but I doubt it.

perhaps a few factors:

They have no debt (currently)...we are paying 500k pa to Farmer. Although they will soon have anne stadium to finance
They have just brought a new director in who has provided them with over a million of working capital
They will have close to 1M extra in prize money than us last year -likely a lot more due to two cup finals too
Their catering and retail stuff is in-house - so will be shown as revenue..

My take on it as well. They are two first team regulars down on last season so have hardly splashed the cash and I don't think they have replaced hayes and mcginn with the same quality. Why did five guys leave at the end of their contract. Two sides to every story.

There is only so many times that Mcinnes can keep losing their best players and still get second. Were now in the SPL and sevco can't he as bad as last season. We shall see.

To be honest they look even worse than last season. Horsed convincingly by Celtic in all games bar one draw last season. Howling european result this season, lost to St J in friendly, player ordered off in a friendly, fans have lost confidence in their manager, they are calling for his head and for all Catholics to get out of their club etc, just lost the huge tax case. I think they will be stinking this season and I really fancy us to turn them over at Ibrox, especially if Stokes signs as he ran riot against them in the cup final against an arguably better defence than they have now.

It'll be interesting to see Aberdeen's long term plan, as a lot of their signings are in on loans and one year deals. Not sure if McInnes is just trying to go all guns blazing for this one season, to justify a big move for him (bigger than Sunderland at least)

Agreed but turnover is nothing to do with a "rich guy pumping in millions" and there's nothing to suggest their model is any different to ours - spend what you bring in.

Key point is the playing staff costs and in the next 2 years I doubt Hibs will be far behind the Dons there. Fair play to them, they've capitalised more than anyone on The Rangers demise.

No reason for us to doubt our ability to compete with Aberdeen, we need to replicate what they've done in getting the maximum bang for their buck

For us to match Aberdeen or just do well in general, we will need to start scoring goals. We have not been prolific in front of goal for more than 5 years now.
Lennon's signings are showing signs he wants to change that but we are still a couple of top quality strikers away from what we need.

Goals from midfield will come in handy too. Reckon Swanson will hit double figures this season.

Aberdeen impressed me last night. Hopefully they get through to the groups which will improve our coefficient while making it tougher for them in the league. Double win.

I thought they'd be much weaker this season but I reckon Christie, GMS, Tansey and Maynard are actually an upgrade on Hayes, McGinn and Jack. Christie is a brilliant player.

If he's on pens he'll have a chance. Otherwise he'll get about 5 at best.

They didn't impress me. They were up against complete cloggers. Anything other than a win over 2 legs would have been an utter embarrassment for Aberdeen and Scottish Football.
