It was a cup game today so I doubt trialists are allowed.

He said when it first came out he was training with us that he'd be involved in the first three pre season games thena decision would be made, don't think he was ever going to be involved today.

Sounds like he did well though so imagine we've made him an offer and he's away back to his family for a few days to think it over.

Lennon confirmed after the game today that no offer has been made.

Shame cos I thought he would be a good addition to the squad.

I understand that - question being was he in the West stand ?

I think he could have added something but maybe the wages etc weren't worth the risk.

That's a shame.

Did he imply he could still make him an offer or did he say that was that?

Will have to wait to hear it on his post match interview, my source is Kenny Millar.

Not too disappointed to be honest. I thought he looked decent enough. But I think we need to be looking for players that are a real improvement in that area of the park. I think he would have been fine, but not much more.

Can't say I'm too gutted about it to be honest he was ok in the pre season games but Boyle was much better in the games he played. Could also be that we don't intend to play a 4-4-2 with wingers, that would make it a bit of a pointless signing!!

Thank god, he's past it. He done a lot better than I thought he would to be honest but I'm very much happy to see us look elsewhere considering his age and possible wage requests.

I'd have taken him. Made a point on another post that having experienced guys in the squad helps the young boys.

I'd have been happy for him to sign, but I'm actually pretty encouraged by the fact that we're not pursuing him despite him doing pretty well.

The encouraging thing i take from this is that Lennon seems to be setting the bar quite high with his signings. Pennant did reasonably well by all accounts, just not quite good enough. Onto the next target , and its also good that Lennon knows right midfield needs strengthening

Evening News are confirming Lennon has dropped his interest in Pennant but might review it at a later date.

I like this from Lennon. Even though I felt Pennant would have been worth a punt, it shows the level that we're looking at if we can say not thanks to a player who looked decent enough.

We'd have snapped him up in a second in the Fenlon days.

So did he ask for too much cash or did Lennon just not rate him?

That hasn't been mentioned but my guess is neither. I read it that simply he's not the priority player we need and sounds like Lennon would rather wait and keep all the funds available to push the boat on a striker (presumably) first. The fact he said he might revisit Pennant suggests if we get our priority players in and still have money to bring him in, we might do so.

This is purely speculation but is how I'm choosing to interpret it.

Im guessing player at 34 and turning out as trialist isnt big on wage demands and more just chance stay in the game but im just guessing

I think he's past the level we want to be at.

This is how I see it.
We are aiming for 4th place this year and collecting guys who used to be good is not where it's at.
IMO Commons falls into this basket as well.

Now lets get our hands on 2 good strikers.
It wouldn't surprise me if Lennon offers Simon Church a 2 year deal.
Decent player and a good age at 28. Not Pele but we are Hibs not Man City.

That would leave us looking to land a flagship striker e.g. Stokes
