Maybe they're pushing the boat out to get stokes so it convinces Lennon that he'll get backed at Easter road and not have his head turned by the Preston Job. Pretty coincidental the story about stokes just as he becomes favourite for the Preston job!

Hope Lennon stays and stokesy comes back. Lennon would definitely get the very best out of him!

Blackburn would love to let him go for free, but that wont happen as he's on a contract that lasts 2 more years on £14k a week.

He will want some sort of pay off before he hopefully makes his way to Easter Road.

Hopefully we can come to some arrangement whereby Blackburn give him some pay off and we use some of the Cummings money as a sign on fee. I'll miss Cummings but if we can bring in Stokes this will probably be the best transfer window I can remember.

I'm not convinced that was always stokesy's doing tbh. The amount of times he'd drop deep for the ball because of **** service was unreal. Also, the general consensus was he played better with Keatings. Something we didn't see enough of probably and I kinda expected they 2 to start the final. Albeit I'm relieved that Stubbsy played an absolute blinder with his formation and personnel.

Bottom line for me is Anthony Stokes would be a fantastic addition to our squad and would almost guarantee 15-20 goals if we get him in early enough for a decent pre season and get him sharp

Paying Stokes a signing on fee would be the same as paying a transfer fee to Blackburn so it wouldn't be the same as paying wages.

And a back injury. So to summarise, he hadn't kicked a ball in months, got floored with the flu and kept out with a back injury yet he still scored 9 goals in half a season. If he hadn't been Anthony Stokes from Celtic we'd have been delighted with his contribution without even considering the cup final. Anthony Stokes done well at Hibs under Stubbs however I don't doubt there'd be even more to come this time round.

100% correct. Stokes worked hard to get himself fit, was our best player for the last month of the season and helped himself to 9 goals. Not sure what more people wanted from him.

Anthony stokes performance in the cup final was the best individual performance I have ever seen from a hibs player. In many other games he was streets ahead of everyone on the park but wasn't fully fit and Cummings could not read his game well enough to play along side him. I've been looking at the Blackburn forums to get some insight into the truth of the Stokes rumours, turns out they only have two senior centre forwards after losing a few who had been on loan last season. Mowbray is desperately trying to sign strikers and it looks like he sees Danny Graham as his main choice but he is after a younger player to challenge him for a starting place. Most fans aren't too bothered about losing Stokes as he hasnt produced the goals they'd hoped for, it may be that Mowbray wont let Stokes leave until he has signed his replacement. You get the feeling his time at Blackburn is coming to an end.
On another note, hearts have a laughable bid for Chris Cadden turned down by Motherwell, their manager says it is a joke bid and an example of a club trying to get a top player on the cheap.

This is the greatest ever performance I've seen in a Hibs jersey. Celtic were still a top European side and Sir Paddy gracefully pissed over every one of them. Get emotional just thinking about that second half, the dark atmospheric drizzle with the floodlights dazzzling the white sleeves. The Hibbys in the stand starting the chants. We knew we had them - and so did they.

Stokes's was incredible too of course. Would love to see him back.

The 28-year-old Republic of Ireland international only joined last summer on a free transfer.

He scored on his debut for Blackburn and grabbed two more in their EFL Cup win over Mansfield but then endured an indifferent season as the troubled Ewood Park club were relegated to League One.

Stokes has a prolific record in Scotland and enjoyed his last spell on loan at Hibs in 2016 as he helped them win the Scottish Cup.

Hibs are also signing Cambridge midfielder Luke Berry, 24, for £250,000

Absolutely mental statement! Who do you honestly think we could sign who's better than Stokes?

This made me laugh out loud. Stokes would be an outstanding signing so let's not kid ourselves!
Would you say the same thing about SJM?

In many other games he was streets ahead of everyone on the park but wasn't fully fit and Cummings could not read his game well enough to play along side him. He is a legend and anyone not wanting him back needs their heads examined.

:agree: This aspect of his last spell not mentioned nearly enough on .net. Would like to have seen him playing with Holty, who had the intelligence/experience to know what Stokesy was up to half the time!

Stokes came to us totally unfit having hardly played for around 4 months, it took him a while to get fit and sharp and wasn't great in a good few games, he finally got it together at the end of the season and the final he was simply sublime, you could see during games his brain was there but just fitness and sharpness let him down. Get a good pre season and Stokes is still a top notch striker.

So Kenny Millar (who is usually spot on) thinks that Stokes is willing to leave Blackburn for free despite having 2 years left on high wages, and others are saying he's coming on loan.

The latter definitely sounds more likely but let's hope Millar's right and we are able to sign him for more than 1 year

Really hope this goes through, if it does it would arguably be our THIRD coup of this transfer window :flag:

Stokes a legend but was never consistent enough. Move on!Anthony Stokes has 33 goals for Hibs in 67 games. He is about as consistent a Hibs striker as there has been in the last 30 years.

Was judged on goals by most but linked midfield to attack and was getting better each game. Wish Jason the best not seen evidence he will reach achievements Stokes has.

Holt was same but he didnt play bad and did hard work for team. A fit hungry Stokes is the best level striker we could hope for.

I Like May but hasnt delivered like Stokes in SPL. It is also a huge gamble by dons given injury background.

Anyone questioning the signing of a player like Stokes needs their heads read....would be an amazing signing and statement of intent by Hibs...I just hope we get him on a perm deal

His Elvis impersonator victim is still waiting on Stokes to pay up. It's a lot of dough that a Hibs salary will struggle to cover, unless he plans just to ignore the guy.

Anthony stokes performance in the cup final was the best individual performance I have ever seen from a hibs player. In many other games he was streets ahead of everyone on the park but wasn't fully fit and Cummings could not read his game well enough to play along side him. He is a legend and anyone not wanting him back needs their heads examined.one of the best, and factual statements I have ever seen.. he was miles ahead of all on the park that day. Gray, apart from his winning goal also drove us on for the last 10 mins, reminding me of Murdo McLeod when we won the League cup. both true Captains' roles

**Yes which is why I didn't believe Kenny Millar when he said that Stokes and Blackburn were ready to terminate his contract for free. Hopefully still get him on loan though**

EDIT: As Kenny has kindly pointed out, he never said that Stokes was willing to terminate his contract for free, I misread his article

They ARE ready to terminate his contract for free. It's the pay off for the remainder of his contract that stokes wants that's the issue.

Don't normally post on stuff like this, but I didn't say anything like that. What I have consistently said is that Anthony Stokes and Blackburn were/are in negotiations over a severance package. He obviously wants the most he can get. They obviously want to save as much as they can. Hibs have to wait until that's resolved and he's a free agent or negotiate a loan.

That's Interesting.

Tony Mowbray: "We're obviously short at the front end of the pitch, because we've only really got Danny Graham, but hopefully we'll have one added this week and then two or three more to fill in around the pitch."

yesterday https://twitter.com/rovers/status/883677176842911744 he looked ok from what I've seen of photos of him at Easter Road today!
