Just heard on the radio he's got motor neurone disease.
What a nightmare it must be hearing that news.

Poor Doddie. Horrible disease.
Shame. Mountain of a man in his day.
A giant of a man I was drawn to when watching rugby as a boy, someone who stood out as charismatic, a leader and a charming, personable fellow.
All the the best to you sir

That's awful news.

I wouldn't wish this on anyone. I can't imagine how awful it must be to hear this diagnosis and to know there's only one way that you're going to end up.
I hope he is able to enjoy the time that he has left and that he can battle this for as long as possible.

Really sad news. I read he's going to make himself available to researchers at Edinburgh Uni when he returns from holiday, so more work can be done to understand the disease. An extraordinarily selfless thing to do when he knows the opportunities for him to enjoy his life to the full are limited.
I read this article last night - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/40335537
The exchange between John Bentley and Doddie Weir made me laugh out loud. :greengrin
