It’s nothing to do with managing her expectations. She is flat out lying to them. If they are daft enough to believe her, then more fool them. If I was them I would be worried that if she can lie so easily about this, what other lies is she telling them?

I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and say that she doesn't have much experience dealing with construction projects and when the contractor tells her they are still on track she takes it at face value and doesn't have the experience to realise that what they are telling her is not achievable.

She has plenty knowledge of the building industry close at hand. She knows exactly what she is doing. It’s all about keeping the money rolling in. Nothing else matters as they are spending a lot more than they are bringing in.

I don't believe she's been lying about expected completion dates, I think she's been misinformed. I think that the contractors, maybe being over optimistic, have been telling her what she wants to hear as opposed to the reality.

I've worked in construction for over 30 years, and I've lost count of the number of times I've seen contractors making the right noises to keep a client happy when everyone around the table knows that they're promising the impossible.

She is just telling the punters what they want to hear in the same manner project customers of Newell and Budge used to get led a merry dance with cost and timescale over-runs on IT projects they were delivering got. Once an IT Consultant always always a failure to deliver on time or to budget or to specification

No, the costs up to year end will be shown as 'Assets in the course of construction'. That will accumulate until the stand is finished and then be transferred to Land and Buildings - at that point (probably in the 2018 accounts) we'll know the full cost.

They'd already spent £706,000 by 30 June 2016 - presumably planning etc.

I see in her latest brief update she says the cappings had to be grey because of planning conditions "in keeping with the new Tynecastle school" but as far as I can see the two buildings are not remotely similar. In fact the school has what might be termed a glass curtain wall made of darkened glass with black/dark grey frames - the stand would have looked far better if they had followed that example IMO.

You are being too kind to her. There were some unpleasant truths edited out of the EEN article before it was published. These are shown below in green:

Unlike most of Hearts' spending over the last twenty years - which was financed largely by hoodwinked Lithuanian taxpayers as well as by various unwitting local businesses and charities, Heriot Watt University and Edinburgh council tax payers - the club's new stand has been Paid for by fans ......(it) has slowly been taking shape since the spring and is now close to welcoming its first paying customers

'paid for by fans' followed by 'will soon be open to paying customers'.

So you pay for the right to pay for the right to sit down in a stand.

This lot aren't as daft as we make them out to be.

The Owner's toilet has also been installed.

Tickets can now be reserved online for the stadium tour which includes a viewing of the brand new 'Budgie Cludgie'.

That stand, with the whole 1 side still missing and the interior looking like some unfinished "industrial chic" theme pub is about as near to completion as I am to a coke fuelled threesome with Jennifer Lawrence and a young Farah Fawcett.

The EEN don't even question the lies and fabrications that they are being fed, where are these 150 workers in ANY of the photos?!? And they would all be working on top of each other!

I am working on a project that costs 10 times the value of this tin pot stand and we are barely hitting 300 on site at peak!

Nobody in the media is willing to ask questions for fear of losing their free lunches and call Budge out for being a liar.

If I was claiming all hands to the pump to finish it I would be posting photos of the hoardes crawling all over it to show how.much effort was being put in...

You’re right. Both clubs published their accounts around this time last year.

However, According to Companies House, their accounts to 30 June 2017 aren’t due until 31st Dec 2017.
Ours up to the same date aren’t due until 31st March 2018.

Not sure if that’s the final dates they have to be published on or whether they can be published any time up to those dates.

Deafening silence from Budge on 3 things

1) Cost
2) Completion date
3) Capacity

1) Too embarrassed to let on what the cost overrun is, or can she not put a figure on it?
2) Looks like it's weeks/months away from being anywhere near ready
3) Certain to be less than Easter Road. We don't care but you can bet the thousands of the great unwashed will be.

I've finally worked out what this actually means

"Work still to be completed includes creating the dug-outs, which will be sunk slightly to improve pitch views"

It looks like they really did forget, when designing the Stand, that it was supposed to have things like Dugouts, etc. Now that they've remembered, they realised that having normal Dugouts would block the view of the seats behind, so they've had to lower them a bit.

The "improved pitch views" they're referring to isn't from the Dugout... it's from the seats directly behind.

I said at the time of the plans they had forgotten the dugouts.

I'm not quite sure how being sunken into the ground will improve pitch views  Most modern stadiums are having raised dugouts so coaches can get better views from a higher vantage point of team shape etc.

I remember years ago when we had just completed the first phase of the ER rebuild. The Famous Five and the South Stand were completed and the first derby match afterwards the Jambos were crowing about how Hibs had got it all wrong - the front 2 or 3 rows in the South were so low no one sitting there could see what was going on. And of course they didn't believe the explanation - in order to ensure that the stadium when finished would be UEFA-compliant, Hibs had to level the famous sloping pitch. The goal at the south end of the ground was, I believe, 8 feet higher than that at the north end.

A very few years later the West Stand was built (that's the Main Stand that they're saying is so inferior to the world-class "erection" they're in the process of raising right now) the pitch was levelled and everything turned out to be just right.

This is called forward planning, or foresight, or even common sense. You get an architect to design your stadium, taking all future issues into account, and then build in accordance with his design.

That way you get a pitch that's the right size, with properly-sized run-off areas around it, and stands built so that all the seats allow an unrestricted view of all four corners of the pitch, and all the modern facilities required to stage major club and international matches. I believe those facilities include a clear view of the pitch from the respective technical areas for the team coaches ...

Of course we don't have glass curtains or a piazza or vomitoriums at ER, but all of the spectators (and the teams' coaching staffs) can see all of the match all of the time. Which is kind of the point of a football stadium, I'd have thought.

Not only that the FF stand appeared to be much higher as not only was the south half of the pitch lowered the north half was raised to make it level. Amazing what can be achieved if you get the proper professionals in to do their thing.

Bingo.

Lifted from Wiki

The first dugout appeared at Pittodrie (home of Aberdeen) in the early 1920s. The story goes that Aberdeen’s trainer at the time, Donald Colman, was a boxing and dancing enthusiast obsessed with his players’ footwork. Because he also made meticulous notes during each game and therefore needed a dry notebook, he had Aberdeen build a sunken covered area at Pittodrie, thereafter known as the ‘dugout’. A few years later Everton visited, liked the idea and built one at Goodison Park. Don’t forget that this was some 40 years before the introduction of substitutes.

In the early days dugouts had to be sunk below ground level so as not to get in the way of the crowd, although it is not that uncommon in Non League to find the odd example where they are positioned immediately in front of the stand, as at Sidlesham until fairly recently. These days it is quite rare to see a proper dugout, sunk below ground level. Part of this reason probably stems from the fact that it is virtually impossible to get a good view of the action from such a worms eye position, although a more pragmatic answer is that they tend to get full of water, particularly during a typical British football season. Wembley Stadium was unusual in that there were no dugouts as such, but instead provided the classic ‘trainers bench’ on the touchline.

... So now you know :greengrin

They tend to get full of water. I'm sure they designed in some decent drainage to remove the water.

Ann Budge could just get the fans to bring along a bucket or pail to each game. Lets face it hearts have been shipping water ever since mrs budge took over, pocketing her risk-free 6% interest while the fans pay and pay again.

So instead of expensive engineered drainage solutions, this surely represents another 'world first' opportunity:

For just £51 you can spend a game in the home dug out (or £15 for the away dug out) getting a World Class matchday experience.
Terms/Conditions : bring a pail at 1pm to help drain the puddles (drinking optional at NO EXTRA COST)

They're now selling tickets for the next 5 home games, at Tynie. Looks like they're finally getting it (partially) open.

Yeah its an interesting one. In terms of numbers of tickets they can actually sell to normal punters in the ground a jambo informs me that the capacity is approx. 17500. He is quite sure about this and(quite rightly in my view) doesn't seem too bothered, they needed to replace the old main stand etc. But if we calculate 500 seats for; team officials, directors, the press, disabled spaces, behind the police box, etc, that leaves 2000 hospitality seats to make it a 20k capacity stadium. I can't see where they are fitting all them in. Originally I thought they might get up to 19,700 in Tiny but I would think 19,300 is more accurate and a "sell out" figure is always going to be under 19k.

The huge amount of money they have spent to build this is going to set them back several season on the pitch and that is going to hit attendances - a vicious circle in the short to medium term.

I've got some info. for the good Doctor Budge.

Just done an accurate dot count from their season ticket web page and get a figure of 5528 for the new stand.

Add to that 300 premium seats behind the directors box, 62 private box seats behind them, and 810 lounge access seats , gives the new stand capacity 6700 without counting directors box/media /toilets.

The other 3 stands are supposed to hold 12,809 but I think that's a slight over-estimate, even taking their figure the capacity would be 19,509.

Tiny Tynie right enough. :greengrin

Their stand does look pretty cool but they need to realise its only brick, mortar and steel! Its a one tier stand with an added conservatory, where they get mega-stand from is beyond me?? And, as for the vomitories, they are specifically used in regard to a coliseum - I definitely do not see a coliseum in Gorgie. However, I'm going out with a few Hearts supporting mates next weekend and will have a note book on hand to note the amount of Budge-esque words, statements and fantasies they use. Plus will need to note in all the realities and true evidence relating to being asked to 'prove' my info as factual when contradicting their version of the truth.

A career spent talking the finer points of waste disposal when the folk that pay his wages thought he was a football commentator.

Do any other football teams in the world have toilets that work or is this another first that they'll be hyping quite soon before announcing the latest non completion date (delay is such an unsophisticated word for such a highly sophisticated design).

Can they do that though? I mean, does 'our new stand's still not ready and Murrayfield's not available this weekend' count as a valid reason for postponement? I'd have thought they'd incur at least a fine, if not docked points for that.

I stopped by in Mcleod Street about 4PM today. The piazza or what ever they call it and the Gorgie end exit are nearly complete but the Roseburn end has a good bit to go .

While I was there Doctor Budge emerged from the world class erection with 2 or 3 builder boss looking chappies.

Under her maroon hard hat she had a face like thunder so that might be an indication of progress inside or maybe she's just been told of more additional costs and the Gorgie coo's been milked dry. :greengrin

The other 3 stands are supposed to hold 12,809 but I think that's a slight over-estimate :greengrin

I think you are right it is a bit lower.
See http://www.heartsfc.co.uk/pages/historytynecastlestadium

Figures seem to be:
Wheatfield - 5902
Roseburn - 3436
Gorgie - 3160

Total - 12598

Tiny is going to look a lot better but they seem to have spend so much (circa £15m) to raise capacity so little.

Who knows what the real figures are they seem to be rather concocted for the new stand anyway. The Roseburn and Gorgie stands lost several rows of seats when they extended the pitch I think which seem to be the figures that the hearts webpage is using - hence the lower stand capacities.
A dotcount would be interesting but I doubt any jambos will want to know the result. I suspect the total number of tickets available for sale will be about 1000 less than Easter Rd...

Indeed the Philosophiae Doctor (PhD) is a title granted after a period of study usually 3-4 years full time where you complete a research project and submit a thesis which makes an original contribution to knowledge. It's a hard slog for most people.

The honorary PhD's handed out by universities are largely now a marketing/publicity exercise, e.g. Swansea awarding one to Hilary Clinton to get a 30 second slot on the six o'clock news. Hilary will not be styling herself Dr Clinton, usually only narcissistic oddballs would actually use the title if they hadn't actually completed a real PhD programme.

There is a third way to 'achieve' the title and that is by what is effectively a correspondence course with a dodgy institution. A celebrated example would be Rev Dr Ian R K Paisley's award from that celebrated white supremacist institution the Bob Jones University. I think it cost him $50 and I assume the ceremonial graduation gown was full KKK regalia.

'Care home pink' sums this up perfectly. I'm impressed with the way that the breeze block moves seamlessly to plasterboard in this shot. In fact, I almost didn't notice and had to study it carefully to see the join. I'm so glad that Queen Anne insisted on upgrading the serveries. Can't wait to see the bogs.

Wonder if the serving staff will be rigged out in maroon and care-home-pink outfits?

Are they going to issue away fans protective glasses when they visit the erseholedome?

It's a serious question as I don't imagine many football fans in Scotland will have seen a one tier stand with shiny plastic seats and a bit white steel across the top of it.

I appreciate that their regular proclamations about it are giving the public fair warning but it could still cause a few medical emergencies when the sheer scale of this is finally revealed.

No wonder they're keeping the plastic bags on until the very end and are naming everything in Latin so as to keep it all secret until the big reveal.

Away down in Gorgie is Tynecastle Park
With a "World Class" stand that is miles from the mark,
It's seats are still missing and it's leaking in parts,
Aye there’s nae other stand to compare with the Hearts'

H-E-A-R-T-S
If you cannae spell it then here’s what it says
Hearts Hearts poor delayed Hearts
It’s down at Tynecastle they bodge
The talk of dot net is it's not ready yet
While Anne Budge exploits them with pride
This is their story this is their song
Built by the Hearts it's sure to go wrong
Pies are for sale at Celtic, Killie and Hibs,
but way down in Gorgie they've all had their chips

Some souwester caps we can always supply,
or buy a Hearts brolly to keep your heid dry,
If we had the time we could hang all the doors,
but we'd have to speed up and complete some of the floors

We’ve raised architectural standards with our curtain wall,
But we've no stairwell handrails so we hope you don't fall,
The piazza is paved and in there's a shock,
We've constructed our badge out of old monoblock

Seems to be dawning on some folk on kickback that they’ve been lied to again. The stadium apparently could have been ready for Kilmarnock but they didn’t want to risk it... yet it’s now Wednesday after the Killie game and they still haven’t fitted all the seats, the end of the actual stand structure still isn’t finished, dugouts aren’t in etc. They were never going to make the Kilmarnock game. Just like they were never going to make all the other deadlines they’ve given.

Will that be the way the office windows are lit once the stand's open? ie will you be able to see people working and assorted office furniture etc? I had thought the purpose of the glass curtain was to present a kind of seamless screen that you wouldn't actually be able to see through? That seemed to be what the original plans showed before they were scaled back:

OK, can we put this one to bed once and for all?? As that pic shows there is NO form of curtain wall. The definition of curtain is 'a piece of suspended material forming a screen'. Now, that artist's impression shows just such a form of screen but as the photo shows there is no such thing in reality. It is, pure and simple, a set of office windows.

Despite this, Budge continues to wax lyrical about the curtain wall. Why is this? Are they planning to add one at a later date?

As others have pointed out, NONE of this would matter in the slightest had Hearts not made such a song and dance about 'the biggest glass curtain wall in Scottish football'. Indeed, had they not made such a song and dance about this stand we wouldn't have had this megathread on the subject.

Those pics showing the 'view' from behind the police control centre sum up what a desperately over-hyped structure this is.

In construction / manufacturer technical speak what they have there would certainly be classed as a curtain wall system. It is a facade that supports nothing but it's own weight (and any loading placed on it from the wind etc) and is connected back to the primary structure.

What it isn't is the lovely architectural Planar glazing system clearly shown in their architectural images.
