This started yesterday, no major shocks yet in the men's draw as Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic got safely through today. Andy Murray plays his first round tomorrow against Andrey Kuznetsov. He's coming into the tournament in dreadful form so it's quite difficult to say how he'll perform over the next couple of weeks. He's certainly not the tournament favourite but hopefully he'll start well tomorrow.

I fancy Dominic Thiem to have a good run. I've noticed he has in his section though.

Am I right in thinking Murray can meet Del Potro fairly earlier - will be dangerous.

Andy looked a bit heavy-legged today before blowing away his skinny opponent.

Dominic Thiem is certainly a possible dark horse although he's due to meet Djokovic in the quarter finals.

Murray's possible path to the title would be;

1st round - Andrey Kuznetsov - won
2nd round - Martin Klizan
3rd round - Juan Martin Del Potro
Last 16 - Tomas Berdych
Quarter Finals - Kei Nishikori
Semi Finals - Stan Wawrinka
Final - Novak Djokovic

I wasn't actually aware of his likely meeting with Del Potro in the third round. He'll really need to improve on his recent performances to win that one, that could be a very difficult match for him. Although this is actually Del Potro's first appearance at Roland Garros since 2012. It's certainly not going to be easy for him to get through those matches. I personally think he'll go no further than the quarter finals at best this year. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I am probably biased and undoubtably heavily invested in season tickets, but to be honest, I would rather Andy won the PNB Paribas Open than the Frog Open. He seems to suffer the desert heat like me - not easily - and Andy doesn't get the chance to drop a couple at the Moet stand then down the lovely slushed iced Margarita Cadilacs from the top of stadium 1 after a lunch at Nobu or Spago.

We are 2nd row from the front in the best shaded section next to Larry Ellison after a spectacular lottery pick but it costs almost as much as my LA Chargers seats.

I would get Wimbledon seats if I was close enough!

I watched Del Porto in the last clay tournament in Lyon and he wasn't very good. Scraped through against Hayls then lost to Elias. Don't think he's a serious threat.

It depends really. He's had a lot of injury problems in the past few years and his form is quite erratic. It's certainly a harder match than Murray would have hoped for in the 3rd round.

He looks even more exhausted now. He looks gutted to have lost that set.

The French crowd really don't like Murray. They're always cheering for his opponent.

Murray Broken as he's serving for the 2nd set, French crowd firmly backing Del Porto.

French Crowd totally deflated note as Andy starts to rip Del Potro apart

5-0 up in the third and serving for the match.

Outstanding from Murray today. Real show of intent. Especially winning that first set. Think that decided the match as it took so much out of Del Potro. Really looking forward to the second week. Nadal looks unstoppable though unfortunately.

Won in 3 again today hopefully finding a bit of form that cam see him through the summer after a woeful winter/spring by his standards. Looks like the injuries are behind him.

:agree:

He's a skinny little runt now

I really REALLY used to like Novak till this drug stuff came out about Sharapova and he seemed to decline ever since the new drug testing began.. I honestly believe he has robbed Murray of a good few majors with drug enhancing but that's for another day.

Potential banana skin avoided yesterday and great to get it over in straight sets.

The strength of opposition really increases from now though. He plays Kei Nishikori tomorrow in the quarter finals. If he wins that then he'll probably face Stan Wawrinka in the semis and then either Nadal or Djokovic in the final.

Personally think he'll struggle getting into the final but hopefully he can get through tomorrow and take it from there.

Thing with Novak is, he used to struggle when he had 5 set matches, and he always seemed to struggle with stamina. Then out the blue he becomes this machine, barely breaking a sweat the rough 5 set matches, which he chalked up to changing to a gluten free diet. He went on to dominate for an extended period, then as you say, when the stuff with sharapova came out he's barely been the same.

It does make one wonder if he saw the writing on the wall with her, and pulled back from whatever he could have allegedly been doing.

Its a shame that we are talking about this rather than what has been a golden era for men's tennis over the last 15 or so years.

Totally agree.

He went from struggling with fatigue to absolutely super human in a matter off weeks!!

Djokovic getting papped out by Thiem in 3 sets, third set heading for a 6-0 pumping, can't ever remember Djokovic losing a set 6-0

Ryan91

Murray loses the first set 6-2, has looked pretty poor at times, really needs to up his game big time

Ryan91
07-06-2017, 03:39 PM
And Murray pulls it back to 1 set each, winning the second 6-1. Turning point appears to have been losing his first serve on a time violation by the over zealous umpire.

Wawrinka wins it in the end, Murray just looked knackered out there, suspect these long matches he's been playing perhaps took their toll. Though he's done better than many had expected given the way he had been playing in the weeks prior to RG, He'll be favourite for Wimbledon and the US Open, wouldn't surprise me if he won both

Sir David Gray

Looks like the five set slog he had with Murray on Friday has just sapped all of the energy out of Wawrinka.

Nowhere near troubling Nadal and the match is all but over after just over an hour and a half.

Looks like a 10th French Open title for Nadal.

Sir David Gray
11-06-2017, 03:32 PM
Nadal wins in straight sets far too easy.
