Aye, 300k which we could afford but if we went for him Barnsley would have payed more and got him anyway. Good luck to him.

It's a Championship side, they're always going to be more of a step up than teams likes Hibs and Aberdeen

They aren't really. They pay more. That's about it.

And that is what it's about. Why play a bit of European football when you could be earning £2/300,000 more per year?

Was there ever any suggestion than Lennon was interested in him, or is this just a Hibs.net man crush thing?

I suspect the latter.

And also the small issue of the championship being a higher level than the SPL

Is it really though? Yes, there's more money and there are some 'star' players but I'm often amazed at the number of players who have played in Scotland who were average up here who go to the Championship and are decent there.

There are also countless players who find it easy up here and then never make an impact in England

Plenty of footballers have came up here from England and failed to deliver. Works both ways.

The Championship was the fifth richest league in world football a couple of years ago. I suspect that the Chinese Super League will have shifted that order, but there's still loads of money down there - the average basic salary is over £6K a week.

Quite why anyone struggles to understand why players sign for unfashionable teams in that league is beyond me.

Best of luck Steve. Going to miss him. Do we get a percentage of any sell-on fee? I'm sure, knowing Rod, something will have been arranged.

The thing is, when we played St Mirren he never stood out. That Lewis Morgan looks decent though.

Mallam didn't play in that final.
