From the EEN - maybe more suited to those of us who won't see 50 again though a couple should be easy for the young-uns

20/23 - pleased with that. (I'll admit to a couple of guesses)

Some really interesting pictures in amongst all that, and I'm glad I got to experience a lot of those old style grounds before the identikit stands that are prevalent in Scotland's stadiums now.

Dens Park was the surprise one I didn't get.
The other 2 were lower league grounds I've never been to - thats my excuse anyway!!

21/23 All this years spent on the Scottish Football Books and Hugh Taylor to thank. Some were detective work though I had played at Netherdale but it was the letters on the stand that gave it away.

Not bad as my first football match in Scotland was in 1987.

Ok ...:offski:

The first picture in the quiz showing the ducks in the Dunbar End.... Flying visit !

It says May 1966
I checked the fixture/result list for that season. No game in May listed.

Looking at the crowd reminds me of a lot of wee attendances at that time.

Lowest attendance at ER that season was 3.800 against Clyde.

Highest was 37.000 against the old team from Govan

The average gates that season were around 12.000

Back to the sparse main terracing.

I recall one time the ball was booted far up the main terracing.
The place was empty.
A supporter got a hold of the ball as it was rolling down the steps.
He ran up to the top of the terracing with it and disappeared down the exit steps, and out the ground .

On 1966 and all that
That year saw me going to Hampden for my first international match
Scotland 3 v England 4
8 of the Scotland team that day played for Celtic/Rangers
The "rAngers end" had many fans sporting rAngers colours.

A lot of those old stands look more atmospheric than their replacements. Ibrox in particular looked like it used to be on a hell of a big, almost scary scale.

Good to read that Cathkin is to be redeveloped

One of the finest full backs i saw in a Hibernian jersey came from Thirds

That is a quality photo of Easter Road.

Random question as it's way before my time, see when the East was a big massive terracing, what was like at the back of it? And was there separate turnstiles for the top level?

Always wondered and there are zero photos online, I've looked loads of times.

Turnstiles at ground level, huge banks of steps up to the top of the terracing.

No separate turnstiles, just issued with ice axe and crampons.

There was a walkway mid way up the terrace.

TV cameras were often positioned on a scaffold platform at the very back of the high terrace.

The view of Edinburgh from the top was as good as from Arthur's Seat

I believe the picture with the ducks was taken at an East of Scotland shield game in the 70's, the lack of interest was why this particular trophy was abandoned.

Happy
I think you solved that one.
I completely forgot about the EoS Shield.
(the 3rd oldest football trophy in World Football, don't you know !)

According to Hibernian Historical Trust ,a Shield Final was played at ER in May '66.

This,courtesy of HHT

The month of May 1966 saw a double meeting take place with Hearts as the 1965 and 1966 East of Scotland Shield Finals were contested on the 4th at Easter Road and the 7th at Tynecastle.

Hearts went into the first game as holders and retained that right in defeating Hibs 3-1 with Joe Davis getting the greens' goal from the spot.

At Tynecastle, the Gorgie side completed a double in winning 4-2 and this time it was Colin Stein and Jim Scott who found the target.

Pretty sure the original caption on the ducks photo referred to a derby being played in May 1966, so that matches up with the EoS shield final.

Leith Athletic and Edinburgh City at different times

maybe St Bernards as well

Indeed they did.

Edinburgh City certainly played at Powderhall
Logie Green was the ground St Bernards originally used.
The ground(Logie Green) was paved over to create a car park for Powderhall

Hibernian played hearts there in the Scottish Cup Final 1896

I never competed as the answer seemed to come up in green anyway?
No matter though. I seen the Hibs at most of these places, but regardless of this, what brilliant shots. Makes you weep at the sanitisation of stadiums now. These places were the places football was played, loved and hated in equal measure. Having watched 20mins of unctious spew around Pablo Zabaletta tonight, I know where I'd rather be.
