Confirmed by Stewart Gilmour their ex chairman who negotiated the deal.

Seems reasonable but it all depends on what we paid if anything and more importantly what we get

Should've told them we'd let them have a point if they wiped it out.

We're not planning on selling him, are we?

Let's worry about this in a few years.

If it's a high amount then it's what was negotiated. We should be more than happy to pay this- hopefully it sends a clear message to other clubs, sell your good players to us and you'll get even more money back when they continue to develop with us. Really helpful for us if it means we get access to more talent for less cash up front. If the player then bombs it's less of a sting for us, if they play well then we get a good player for a time and then a sizable amount back. Win win really if you look at it from that perspective.

This is one of those myths which if said often enough becomes true.

IIRC this was denied by Rod as being no where near that much at the AGM following that SM forum. I'm inclined to believe Rod as opposed to the SM chairman who was trying appease a group of unhappy fans who were upset at losing their best player to a rival for a relatively small fee.

Also, depending on those who are "in the know"/media, the sell on % is either 20%, 25% 30%, 33% or 40%. All of which I have read as being submitted as facts.

The reason it's so high is because we would not pay the compensation required. McGinn was out of contract at the time.
And if we do a similar deal to get Mallan then I'm happy enough with that. We should insist on sell on clauses when we sell McGinn and Cummings as well.

All total hearsay. We paid a substantial development fee to them and I doubt even if it had gone to tribunal that it would've been much more than what we paid. Add in the fact SJM was threatening legal action against the club for his injury then I highly doubt we gave them top dollar development fee plus 1/3 of any future fee.
