How does it work now? IIRC there was a round robin in the Summer?

Then to knockouts. We obviously missed out last season what with being in Europe due to winning the Scottish.

Any idea of dates, format, etc?

Definitely something we should be in with a shout. Was very disappointed to go out first round to QOTS this season.

Cheers

First game on Sat 15th July. Then following 2 Saturday's with 2 midweek games in between.

Last 16 is midweek after first league game.

In effect this becomes pre-season.

Which round do we come in at or are all teams except teams in europe in the group stages?

We're in the group stage. And as you say this is all team bar those in Europe.

Could we draw Hearts seeing as it is regionalised?

Is it north/south or east/west?

Hibs will definitely be second seeds in whatever group we are drawn in, so are guaranteed to play one other Premiership team either home or away.

Whats not clear is whether we will be regionalised in the North or South section, its very tight (as an example all the Fife teams and Dumbarton (on a latitude with Edinburgh) were in the North section this season) but Edinburgh City were in the South.

If Hearts don't make Europe and are in the same geographical section as Hibs - there's a 25% chance of a derby in the Group stages.

8 groups of 5 teams

4 groups in both North and South sections

3 pots for each regional section (top seeds, 2nd seeds, unseeded teams)

so there will be 8 top seeds from the Premiership with Celtic, Aberdeen, Rangers and St Johnstone/Hearts/Partick not involved due to Europe.

Last season seeds were split like this -

Top seeds - North
1 St Johnstone
2 Ross County
3 Inverness Caledonian Thistle
4 Dundee

Top seeds - South
5 Motherwell
6 Partick Thistle
7 Hamilton Academical
8 Kilmarnock

So we could well be a North team along with Hearts, St Johnstone and Ross County.

I don't think there is. We'll both be top seeds.

I like the new format except the regional split.

We can draw the jambos -
1st pot - yams, Ross co, Inverness and Dundee
2nd pot - hibs, Falkirk, Dundee Utd Dunfermline
3rd pot - 12 other teams classes as north section including Edinburgh city

So we could actually have a group with hibs, hearts and Edinburgh city all in it.

I like the new format except the regional split.

Except we have to possibly go to Dingwall and Inverness in preseason

Not by my reckoning

Teams 1-4 (4): Celtic, Aberdeen, Rangers, say St Johnstone - in Europe so BYE TO LAST 16
Teams Teams 5-12 (8): Hearts, Partick, Ross County, Kilmarnock, Motherwell, Hamilton, Dundee, Inverness - TOP SEEDS - split 4 & 4 North & South
Teams 13-20 (8): Hibs and the next 7 in the Championship - 2ND SEEDS - split 4 & 4 North & South

Rangers finishing 13th last year were second seeds and that was even enjoying  the "benefit" of Hibs being in Europe so everyone 4th or below in the Prem "moving up" a place

EDIT Looking at the teams involved split its almost certain they'll place Hearts/St Johnstone as a North team with Ross County, Dundee and Inverness

2nd seeds is less clear cut as there are no real "Northern" sides apart from DU

Would guess at (based on current likely finishing positions - Raith overtaking St Mirren could change everything)

North: Dundee United, Falkirk, Dunfermline, HIBERNIAN
South: QOS, St Mirren, Dumbarton, Morton

Even then Dumbarton is debatable as they were deemed Northern this year!

Don't know why they don't just call it East/West

Dundee Utd weren't a top seed last year so I don't see why Inverness would be one this year?

Is it because the top 4 will be in Europe next season. Last season we took one of the places

Exactly. So there was 9 Prem teams and only 8 top seed spots to Rangers dropped into the 2nd pot.

Would be funny if we actually outnumbered them at what's supposed to be their home game!

But this year there will be 8 premier league sides and 8 top seed spots. Inverness are that 8th side.

Rangers never dropped to pot 2, they were never in pot 1, Dundee United dropped to pot 2.

Betfred Cup

Group Stage (excludes UEFA participants): 15, 19, 22, 26 and 29 July 2017

Round 2 (entry of UEFA participants): 9 August 2017

Quarter-finals: 19 & 20 September 2017

Semi-finals: 21 & 22 October 2017

Final: 26 November 2017

First league game is Saturday 5th August. Really hope we draw the yams in the group stages so that we can extend our unbeaten run against them and pile even more pressure on Cathro and the tramp.

We are a Premiership team. Remember all that brew-haha at the game against Queen of the South? Winning the league, lap of honour, SOL, etc.

No Mickey Mouse Cup for us.

We will be a top seed. Whoever is relegated from the top tier, whether 1 or 2 teams, will be 2nd seeds. We will not be in same group as Yams, however both Dundee teams could be drawn together.
