They are not really a party in the true sense and boy do they attract some odd balls...

Seems that farage had the sense to moderate some of their more right wing instincts.

I think their share of the vote will drop massively, 50% or more.

Having won their leave vote, I don't think they have any idea what they're for any more. The Tories are more than happy to supply a hard enough Brexit for even the keenest of bitter xenophobes.

The Tories are the new UKIP so it makes sense that UKIP become the new BNP. Mind you Labour started the ball rolling by becoming the new Tories.

Could hardly call Corbyn's Labour or Kezia's direction of travel- the new tories.

The tartanites at the snp have taken over that title and Nicola the new Thatcher.

Unfortunately they have made it acceptable to be on the extreme far right in politics. The Tories are getting the benefit as the UKIP voters are following their policies over to the Tories

I don't think they have. People have turned pretty conprehensively against them and their lurge into fascism has cemented their fate.

Nope, the Tories have out UKIPED them. Now the Tories have nicked their policies folk will move to the Tories as they now see it as more acceptable to say they vote Tory rather than UKIP.

There is a seamless transition from UKIP to the Conservative Party. Before Brexit there was seamless transition from Conservative to UKIP.

The collapse of the UKIP vote in England confirms this. Huge numbers of short term UKIP supporters realigning themselves with a right wing Conservative Party.

Fortunately, support for UKIP in Scotland has never been very good but even up here it's the same. The Conservative Councillor elected in my local area only joined the Tories after quitting UKIP earlier this year. It was an easy move for him and the traditional Tory voter was happy to back him.

The biggest growth in UKIPs vote in recent years has been in the working class areas (eg Sunderland) which they have ben actively targeting for years. Those voters have not gone back to Labour but have moved to the Tories. That's the pull of Brexit Conservatism but also the push of Labour party disarray.

I'm not denying that UKIP Tories have gone back to the Conservatives but its not the whole picture

In England you have plenty working class tories, you'll also find them in Scotland but in nowhere near the same numbers.

For any party to be successful, in the way that it lools like the tories will be, and the way new labour were, they habe to take a lot of votes from outside their natural voters.

Its why those on the hard left are so stupid and have become electorally irrelevent.

New labour understood this perfectly, but then many labour people seem to hate them!

Its also what the SNP have been very good at

It's worth noting at various times UKIP drew support from across the spectrum including, somewhat bizarrely, former Lib Dem voters. However their core support has generally come from ex Tory voters. At the last general election UKIP drew support from 60% former Tory voters, 12% who had previously voted UKIP, 15% from the Lib Dems and only 7% from Labour. The Lib Dem swing can be clarified by arguing those voters are people who's vote is aimed as a protest at the 'big 2' as opposed to a pro to anti EU shift.

It's also worth noting that at the last election only 3% of people who voted Labour in 2010 switched to the Tories which doesn't quite fit the narrative some want to portray. Admittedly I can't find figures for Scotland seperately but I'd be surprised if it was much different given the collapse in the Labour vote coincided with a surge in SNP support.

Maybe but what we're seeing here is a swing from Labour through UKIP to the Tories as well as Tory-UKIP-Tory.

I think in London the Labour vote never went to UKIP but I suspect a leakage of Labour votes to the Liberals. Fully expect to see Cable and Hughes back.

The big question now is what will Scottish Labour Party voters do come the GE and looking further Indy 2?

Vote Labour and damn Scotland to Tory rule for the foreseeable future or at least until Indy 2.

Vote SNP and increase the chance of Scottish Labour rejuvenating in an independent Scotland.

Vote Tory and try and reverse the SNP mandate for Indy 2 and damn Scotland to Tory rule for eternity and a day.

As a (new) Labour leaning voter, like many others, I'm sure, I am resigned to a Tory government for the next 5 years. I'm pretty depressed about that. What else I am is very angry at the Labour Party for allowing this to happen through sheer incompetance and self-interest and for throwing away 13years of Labour government. I kind of want them to get this. They need to understand how far they have let us down.
