I'll admit, the Swanson news didn't get me as excited as some signings / pre-contracts have.

But having read this article (http://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/competitions/premiership/what-hibs-will-be-getting-in-new-signing-danny-swanson-1-4427993) on Swanson, he sounds like he'll fill a gap we've been missing for several seasons.

Credit again to Mathie / Craig / Dempster et al at getting this boy in - can't wait to see who else we'll bring in :agree:

Aye it's a very flattering article when you take into account its written by a Jambo. Very positive signing.

I'm happy. I guess he's happy to move to ER too.

But I suspect he's going to have to work harder than ever to make an impact at Hibs.

Nope. Probably won't be confirmed till St Johnstone have their league position sorted.

Nah not yet, but it is a certainty. I'm really looking forward to seeing him perform for us, hopefully he's exactly what need on the left of midfield.

I really hope he turns out to be worth the wait. Expectations will be sky high and his recent past will count against him with a section ofthe support.. Could quickly join the Stevenson/Fyvie group of scapegoats and wage theives. I hope not. I look for the positives in every signing. Just wish others did.

From the Scottish Sun online -

DANNY SWANSON has revealed he just couldn’t resist the lure of signing for boyhood heroes Hibs.

SunSport revealed last week he’d agreed a pre-contract with Neil Lennon’s men so will leave St Johnstone this summer.

Swanson, who was recently back in Tommy Wright’s squad following his on-field scrap with team-mate Richard Foster, grew up a Hibs supporter.

And the 30-year-old admits the chance to play at Easter Road was one he couldn’t turn down.

He said: “The opportunity to sign for Hibernian FC was one I couldn’t resist. I’m an Edinburgh boy and grew up supporting the Hibees.

“It’s always been an ambition of mine to play for the club and I am looking forward to this new challenge and to help achieve their goals back in the SPFL Premiership.

“The decision to leave St Johnstone has been a difficult one for me.

“I’ve felt settled at the Saints and really enjoyed my football, and my period at the club has been the most enjoyable satisfying time of my career.

“So, it goes without saying, my decision to leave McDiarmid Park was not taken lightly. However, the pull of Hibernian was too much for me.

“I would like to thank my team-mates, the staff and the supporters at St Johnstone for making me feel very welcome. It’s a fine football club with good values.

“I also want to thank the manager, Tommy Wright, who has supported me in so many ways, on and off the field. His trust in me on the football park allowed me to flourish.

“The way he treated me like an adult off the park also helped me to mature and develop as a person.”

With Saints battling Hearts for a place in Europe Swanson hopes to sign off his time at McDiarmid Park having helped the team stay in fourth place.

He said: “Now that we are in the top six yet again, which is yet another fine achievement, for the next five games, it’s my focus to make sure I play my part in helping St Johnstone qualify for a European place.

“Everyone at the club has worked extremely hard so far this season and it would be a fitting reward at the end of this campaign.

“Beyond that, I look forward to starting my new career with Hibernian in the summer.”

There's a chance for him to get his career with us off to a good start before even kicking a ball, by scoring the winner against the Jambos in the 2nd last game of the season and securing 4th for St Johnstone.

Didn't he say the same when he signed for hearts?

Got into a bit of a debate with my Jambo mate. He is 110% a hibee, but some of them seem to think he's a hearts fan because of an interview he did stating he was one?

Here's what he said at the time -

“My dad is a massive Hibs supporter but is looking forward to coming along to support me at games. He also looks after a handicapped guy called Alistair who’s into Hearts so he’s going to bring him along.”

Swanson can count on plenty of support from his mum’s side of the family as they are all dyed-in-the-wool Jambos.

And the 28-year-old is sad his late grandfather isn’t still around to see him in a maroon shirt.

He said: “My grandad, Llario Guerri, was a season-ticket holder for over 30 years so I’d like to think he’ll be looking down proud of me.

“He was Italian but came over to Scotland and took to Hearts right away. He took my mum to all the games. Nana Guerri phoned my dad’s pub to speak to him on Thursday night after I signed and she was very emotional.

“She was very pleased so I am happy with that.”

While he was playing for hearts he was a Hearts fan, of course he wanted them to win every week.

I think people read too much into who players supported, for the most part they'd be playing football most Saturdays during the season growing up so although most of them will have their allegiances they are unlikely to be like the majority on here who wouldn't dream of playing for the likes of the hearts.

Neil Lennon mentions Swanson in his latest HTV interview. Sounds desperate to get more goals from midfield/out wide, has watched him a few times and has always been impressed - plus mentions that as a 'Leith boy' Danny gets the club.

Exactly the kind of signing we should be making, taking a top 6/4 side's best player. Great business early doors.

As I recall it he claimed his mum's side of the family were Hearts fans and bigged up that element, but going right back to his days at Berwick and Tannadice it's always been well known he's a Hibs fan.

Today's Evening News interview's a bit of a ramble to be honest (written by Barry Anderson so possibly trying to make Swanson look a bit daft) and reminds me of the way Riordan and Griffiths used to go off on tangents. If he does anything like as well for Hibs as those two did he'll do for me.

He also stressed he has never supported the Tynecastle side and only claimed to be a fan to curry favour with their supporters when he signed. Swanson explained that Hibs are the only club he would leave St Johnstone for – and that he was ready to sign a new contract at McDiarmid Park until the Easter Road club
intervened.

*swanson also added that hertz are utter rank and their pathetic fans are six-fingered mutants suffering from delusions of grandeur

Am I the only one who thinks he sounds a bit of a knob? Why would you claim to be a Hearts fan to appease the masses? Jason Cummings admits he's a Jambo or at least grew up one and gets on with it. I couldn't care who the boy supports. Also insinuates he didn't try at Hearts. Any professional who doesn't try is a shame to their profession but one that admits to it is just an idiot. Doesn't strike me as the sharpest boy in the world. The article doesn't give me any smugness towards Hearts it just makes me cringe really. Maybe it's just me.

I remember doing an interview when I was at Hearts,” recalled Swanson. “I had to try and get them on my side so I’m giving it: ‘I’m a Hearts fan.’ Just to say, on the record, I’ve never been a Hearts fan. My granny and granda are but all this ‘my dad’s a Hearts fan,’ it’s not so much true.

“You try to get them on your side but it didn’t really help. I’m definitely not a Hearts fan. I still get people asking me if I’m a Hearts fan. No. No chance.

“Here’s something: I texted Alan Stubbs before I signed for Hearts. I phoned Tommy Wright before I signed for Hearts to try and get something sorted. Even though I was excited to sign for Hearts, I tried to get to Hibs. Alan Stubbs said: ‘Nope.’ So I ended up going to Hearts and played really well – not.”

Ahahahah, what a guy. They're gonna hate him now.

Just you.

Where does he insinuate that he didn't try? He gave an honest assessment that when he was there he was pretty *****

On Sky Sports website this morning;

"Danny Swanson admits Hibernian were the only club he would have left St Johnstone for as he bids to fulfil a lifetime ambition and realise his late friend's wishes.

The 30-year-old ended his Saints career on Wednesday by setting up the winning goal against Hearts before serving a suspension in Sunday's visit of Rangers.

"It's been a big decision for me because I have enjoyed my football here but the only pull I had was because it was Hibs. That was the only team I would have gone to.

"A big factor was I lost my friend on Hogmanay, he was always going on at me to sign for Hibs. That had a big part to play. My mate Shaun Woodburn, he died on Hogmanay at my dad's pub. It was a hard, hard time. I want to play for him."

He's one of our own and I hope that the yams come to hate him as much as they do/did Deeks and Leigh

Good let them despise him, they know he's a cracking player & for whatever reason it never happened for him at Hertz. He'll run through brick walls for Hibs.

Glad he's signed for us but I think he should stay away from the press.

No I think his comments were very poor too - Knob perhaps a bit too much though (grinning face)

Hope Danny does his talking on the pitch and not the papers when we are paying his wages.

I really liked his comments. He's a fan and that shines through. The Hearts move clearly wasn't his first choice and a mistake in hindsight but he rectified it at St. J where he obviously has great memories and respect for the team, fans and staff.

Looking forward to seeing him strut his stuff and play for the Hibees faithful and his late friend.

Dont see what the big deal is, players do stuff like this all the time, like Griffiths kissing the Celtic badge? EVERYONE knows Leigh is a die hard hibby, but Celtic pay his bills.

End of the day hes trying to make a living, he told Hearts fans what they wanted to hear so they would give him a chance. Cant blame him for that!

Over the moon that hes signed.

I am sure he will but imagine how desperate you must be to pretend to be Jambo maybe it is just me but under no circumstances would i pretend to be one of them. Would i play for them probably but would never say i was one them.

I agree with you. Hibs players who support/supported Hearts like Stevenson Whittaker and David Gray haven't felt the need to lie about and nobody would care if they're doing a job for us.

Thought Stevenson was a Raith fan growing up? Never heard anywhere before that he was a knuckle dragger.

Lewis Stevenson, that well known Raith Rovers/Hibs fan?!

Couldn't give two hoots what Swanson's said in the press, either now or when he moved to Hearts. It's on the park that matters

Can understand Swanson reluctantly signing for the mutants if it was his best option at the time but to actually say he was a jambo when he is clearly supposed to be a Hibbie is crossing a line. No need to do it and strange in my opinion.

Just do your talking on the pitch Danny like you did against them last night.

Yep means nothing and he has done well for Saints this season also 2 goals knocking them out the League cup and setting up the winner a couple of nights ago. Same again next season Danny. :flag:

He supported Raith and Rangers - but the only thing that matters is he's 100 percent Hibs now.

Well said

A pal of mine lives next to him and claims he was a Hun growing up

Stevenson' s dad is a Ayr fan

But, at the end of the day, you could struggle to name a player that's shown more commitment and passion for hibs than Lewis

He truly deserves his legendary status

The first man to wear the green to win both the Scottish and league cup

That's good enough for me

Apologies it was meant to say Steven Whittaker, written half paying attention at work.
