I understand that everyone thinks it 20,421.

That is everyone bar the Stadium Guide who cite 20,250 and the World Stadium Database who argue it is 20,350.

Whichever is right, this does not accord with published attendance statistics which hardly ever seem to top 20,000 even for matches 'sold out' at both ends. OK if Hibs were reporting tickets sold, as for previous seasons, and there were 1,000 'no shows', this might explain things.

However we have had two cup replays against Hearts that were allegedly sold ot yet recorded crowds of 19,433 and 20,205. Why would there be 1,000 'no shows' for a cup tie even if we allow for those with Cup top ups in previous seasons? I can see a season ticket holder missing a match but why would someone who has bought a ticket specifically not show up?

A bit of dot counting may be in order to sort this out. Here is what I found:

I suspect that many are in the West Stand Section 49 where the 'dots' apparent on the planner at 658 looks low compared to the area. The West Stand was assumed to hold 6,400.

I also note that there is no Row A in the West Stand Lower on the planner. Do the Row A seats actually exist?

There's no row a in the west. It got removed when the east was refurbished.

What are you saying, they were short of letters for the new East so they took one out of the West and used it there? Petrie! :panic:

Yeah, I think they widened the pitch and so that that the North and South were still central to the pitch row A in the west came out.

Back to the OP.

Maybe the missing seats are the hospitality seats and those in the directors box. I doubt they'll ever appear as dots.

The West Stand capacity is around 6,200, so your total is roughly 500 short of the actual figure.

It may be that the numbers you calculated for section 49 are wrong (I'd guess there's about 1,000 seats in that section), hence the difference.

That's what I assumed. I am not sure why the dots appear at ll in Section 49 as they never show up on the planner.

I do remember the West being quoted as 6,400 when it opened but Row A has clearly been lost when the pitch was realigned.

It will be interesting to see what will happen if season ticket sales crack 13,000. Will Hibs reclaim half the South Stand including Hearts and the Glasgow teams?

We will only get half a stand at Tynecastle in Premiership matches and crappy restricted view seats at Celtic Park.

They might just start up the Category B tickets for the South again for the East half of it. I had season tickets there a few years ago with my older daughter which suited me at the time as I didn't want to subject her to the bile and hatred of the old firm and the yams but wanted a guaranteed seat for the other games

I had a Category B Season Ticket for a spell for much the same reasons.

All the other matches were sure to be live on TV.

It was sometimes fraught. I was at a match against Aberdeen and the Police kept us back for 15 minutes which I can understand, but also would not let us into the toilets. The officer was also remarkably stroppy about things. He were blethering on about it being a Category A match with high security issues! The term Police Intelligence springs to mind since I had a Category B season ticket.

I was in the South for the recent QotS game and we were urged to go in via the East, rather than round by the West.

I suppose they could do that again, having some sort of divide outside the stand if they are concerned about our fans mixing with Aberdeen (or anyone else's) fans after the game.

I actually think it would be rubbish to have derbies with the Roseburn/ South stands split. The derbies benefit in a big way from having a big, noisy away support.

Celtic and Rangers can gtf though. Our fans have been treated despicably through there forever, so I don't see why we should do any more than the bare minimum to accommodate their fans.

What's to stop the police putting up their big metal barriers that they use at *********** to segregate the south stand. As some one said Hibs supporters could enter and exit by the east stand

West stand holds about 6,300. It was around 6,500 when built but the first row was removed when the east was built and the pitch was repositioned.

Back then there was no access to the South Stand via the East.

Hearts have set the agenda by selling season tickets for half the Roeburn Stand.

They have to give the whole of the Roseburn to Hibs support for Scottish Cup matches but there is no way that Hibs will get the whole stand for Premiership matches next season.

Hearts can usually fill the South when they visit unless they think they will lose, when a 'boycott' will be organised quickly.

On that basis we'll be able to use the entire South for Hibs fans at derbies next season.

We should calculate these things the way the yams do - not by counting dots in cyberspace or even plastic entities in the stadium, but by the number of tickets sold per seat per season. I think they make a generous allowance for Scottish and League Cup runs, Champions League group stage matches, etc, and that's how the yams get the number of fans to come out at 400,000. Once the new steel truss is fitted out, their capacity should be upwards of 500,000. Whatever we believe our 'real' capacity is, the local yam media will report it as being a bit less than the yams', so we might as well settle for 480,000 or thereabouts.
