Looked a penalty to me. Those watching on Hibs TV seemed to agree.

First look didn't look like one, but Hibs TV replay showed clear pen.

From my seat it looked like a foul and just inside the box.

I thought it was a stick on penalty and clearly in the box but everyone around me disagreed, interested to see the footage when it becomes available.

I didn't even think its was debatable. Was clearly in the box and a piss poor tackle when the player was going no where.

Clear penalty, absolutely no reason to conceded it. Bad decision making

It doesn't matter if it was inside or outside the box the ref gave the penalty and they scored from it......whats to discuss.

Oh well that's that then, pack your bags, shut down the forum. There's "nothing to discuss".

Clear penalty to me said so to my old boy. East and terrible decision to make. Then we go on to miss ours I was hoping Holt would have taken it

Watched it on Hibs Tv..said "pechalty" when he made the unnecessary tackle and replay confirmed it was a penalty...all commentating agreed.

I was worried he was going to do the same thing in the second half but he pulled out just before lunging in.

Sol Bamba Mark 2 I'm afraid.

I was away at the other end in The west upper but looked a clear pen to me, shocking decision from Bartley

I'm right in line with that edge of the box in FF upper looked a pen to me at the time. Poor tackle from big Marv, no need as the Dumbarton player was going nowhere

I had a good view from the West upper, have to say I thought it was just outside the box and the marks on the grass from the guy's boots seemed to back that up.

I believe the tv pictures show that it was inside the box though, so I stand corrected.

There is plenty to discuss like how bad we are at the moment but a discussion about was it a penalty or was it inside or outside the box is pointless given it can not be changed.

Whether it was a penalty or not is one thing, the fact that Marvin didn't have to make the challenge is another, it was a daft decision to lunge in with the Dumbarton player heading out of the box. On the subject of penalties, after nearly bursting into tears when he lost out for the last one we were awarded, why the hell didn't Holt take ours?

From the FFL, I thought it was never a foul and outside the box.

Sounds as if I was wrong on both accounts.

Definitely in the box. Ridiculous challenge from Barley

Stonewaller from where I was sitting. No need for Bartley to challenge for the ball as their player was heading out the box.

Stonewaller. I'm right in line with the penalty box in the West lower.

He nearly gave away another pen in the 2nd half.

The guys been a great player lately but he needs to stop lunging in when covering in defence.

Ridiculous challenge from Bartley whether it was inside or outside the box. Amateurish and rash.

Gave the referee the chance to give the penalty, and the referee wasted no time whatsoever in awarding it.

Not in the box for me.

Definitely in the box seat in ff upper above it and inside the box absolutely awful decision to dive in like that.

This is turning into one of those gold/blue dress debates.

Maybe there's an optical illusion on the go due to the slope that's been removed?

At game I thought it was a penalty.

Just saw on SSN and think it may be outside !!

It doesn't really matter. The referee thought it was a penalty and he gave it straight away.

I would have wanted a penalty if it had been at the other end. Terrible rash challenge from Bartley, whose card seems to have been marked by referees anyway.

Watched it on hibs TV, was 100% a stonewall penalty I'm afraid.

Poor needless tackle and makes contact about a foot inside the box

Here is a still of the point of contact. Pretty much as I saw it from 80 yards away. Clear penalty, daft challenge and pretty good refereeing.

At the time (north side West lower)I thought the contact was just outside the box and the player fell into the box. The photo above though seems to show contact just inside the box.

I was certain that it was outside the box. The photo shows 100% contact was inside the box, the player landed outside the box.

Still, does that mean that if Craig Thomson was the ref that he would have given a free kick outside the box.

Just goes to show you - I am blinkered and see what I want to see at the game. I was in the FF and had a great view of it - was absolutely convinced it was outside and not a penalty. looks like I was completely wrong.

I was in line with it in the West Upper (testing out the second set of awful restricted view seats Hibs have offered us as part of the FF decant) and it looked at the time as if it was clearly outside the box. The footage suggests otherwise.

Difficult for the ref .One foot out the other inside the box .Having said that there was no need to tackle as their player was going nowhere

This is a fascinating demonstration of the reliability of eyewitness evidence.

I was sure it was outside the box but there's no question it wasn't.

Only some people's eyewitness statements. It was as clear a penalty as I have seen at the game and there was no doubt it was inside the box. The hard ones are when players are going at pace and this was in slow motion. The only thing that probably fooled many was the players were moving out of not into the box. Point of contact counts and there was never any doubt about that.

Yeah, no question it was a pen. What's interesting is that plenty folk, myself included, were convinced it wasn't. We were wrong, but until being shown that we thought we were right.

I thought it was a shocking decision at the time and I haven't seen it again. Having read this thread, it appears I was wrong so if it was a penalty then that's fair enough and I suppose it makes me feel a bit better in that we didn't concede a penalty that shouldn't have been awarded.
