I thought this was worth putting in a separate thread, so it's not lost among the many replies......

If you're in any doubt, please have a look at THIS (http://www.grantonhistory.org/maps/boundaries/leith_boundary_map.htm) map

Case Closed, as they say

Interesting to see the location of the old Leith Academy - didn't know it had ever moved.

Great map, thanks for that.

It's a new map mate, that's where it is now. The old building at the bottom of Easter Road has been converted to flats.

Ah, didn't know that. Must have a wander round that way pre-Dumbarton. :greengrin

Why all this discussion about this now?

Is it because some self-hating Yam Leither is trying to claim Hibs are not from Leith?

Odd, because you'd think they would be doing the opposite. The only way that Hearts' claim to be Edinburgh's Big Team stacks up is if Hibs are somehow excluded on a technicality.

Bad luck Jambos - our claims for both Edinburgh and Leith are impeccable. You are still the biggest team in Gorgie though!

There's an old e/l border sign on the walk from easter road to albion place.

Funnily enough, easter road stadium is on the l side.

As I said on the main thread on this subject, the Yams obsession with Hibs location is relatively new and can be directly connected to the fact that in recent years many football fans outside of the capital have expressed admiration at the sight of the massed Hibees choir belting out Sunshine on Leith.

The comments under any You Tube video of SOL more often than not contain comments from fans of other clubs UK wide and further afield along the lines of ... 'I'm not a Hibs fan, but that makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck' ... and stuff like that. It drives the Yams into a frenzy of jealousy that their wee song never appears in these newspaper and social media articles naming football's best 'anthems' whereas SOL more often than not does :greengrin

Many clubs have songs the fans have adopted which don't mention the name of the club, but very few are universally recognised by other fans as connected to and belonging to that club .... the obvious one is 'you'll never walk alone' no matter who sings it ( Celtic ) its always Liverpool's ... SOL is never going to be sung by fans of other clubs because its impossible to use it generically like YNWA can be, but it remains one of the few songs with non football content that like YNWA is universally recognised and admired as a football song by other supporters and when they hear it they only think of one club.

The Yams know it, hate it, and will do anything they can to try and separate Hibs from the area the song is about ...... Even if it could be proved that ER isn't in Leith ( the map above clearly shows it is ) that's still an absolute waste of time because there will always be that imotional connection between Hibs and the area. Whatever the case, the fact they are so obviously bothered about it gives me a warm glow :aok:

You know the junction for the new flats on the right hand side as you walk towards easter road stadium?

On the older flats opposite.

Even that last contention must be up for discussion.

Nice map for the most part but I disagree with some of it, Trinity is not in Leith

Very good post. Agree with every word. The identification with Leith as cool, gritty, internationalist, spiritual and hip has been established by its port status, it's independent mentality, the song, the cool cache of Trainspotting and the broader SOL musical and film associations. Contrast Gorgie, a depressing slum populated by inbred backwoodsmen gulping stinky air from brewing, distilling and chemical production activities and hacking their asbestos ridden lungs up and you find demented jealousy abounds in Los Yambolinos. They just aren't the cool kids at this school, I'm afraid.

i remember decades ago when forbes mckenzie owned the clan tavern on the corner of Albert Street/Dickson street(158 on that map) showing us(this part i cant remember) either an etching in the wall/plate saying it was an Edinburgh postcode, so that thick black line looks about 5mm out :greengrin

Is that the bothwell bridge end?

It's typical of the modern internet Hearts fan to try and score points on a technicality that involves maybe one or two metres.

I couldn't give a **** about the boundary...we are where we are, we are who we are and our songs are here to stay.

They should be more bothered about their lack of bottle on the park when they play us, not trivial, nerdy rubbish like this.

No. If you go down easter road to the traffic lights and turn right.

Walk towards albion place, there's a bunch of new flats on your right hand side.

It's opposite that junction.

Oh, I get you - Harriesmith Place or something like that? Will have my eyes peeled on Saturday. Amazing to think that I'll have walked past it hundreds of times but not noticed it! Thanks.

:agree:

Chuck in the fact that of late they seem to actually revel in their status as the 'establishment club' as well .... who in the world apart from the Yams would happily accept such an uncool tag? :lolyam:

Tin hat time :paranoid:

The OP is right about Easter Road Stadium being in Leith, but our beloved Hibs were formed and first played played in Edinburgh :agree:
First game was played in the meadows, before moving to Hibernian park, which is now Bothwell street and according to the OP's map, is still in Edinburgh.

Hibernian played its first match on the Meadows (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Meadows_(park)), on 25 December 1875.[8] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter_Road#cite_note-Lugton26-8) The club first moved to the Easter Road (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter_Road,_Edinburgh) area in 1880,[9] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter_Road#cite_note-Inglis450-9) to a ground known as Hibernian Park (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hibernian_Park).[10] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter_Road#cite_note-Lugton46-10) This location had the advantage of being equidistant between their two main sources of support, the Irish immigrant communities in the port of Leith (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leith) and the Old Town (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Town) of Edinburgh.[11] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter_Road#cite_note-Lugton45-11) When Hibs suffered financial difficulties in the early 1890s, the lease on Hibernian Park expired and developers started building what would become Bothwell Street.[9] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter_Road#cite_note-Inglis450-9) The club was reformed in 1892 and a lease on a piece of land called Drum Park was secured.[1] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter_Road#cite_note-Lugton199-1) The site had restricted access from Easter Road, a pronounced slope and was in close proximity to Bank Park, the home of Leith Athletic (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leith_Athletic_F.C.).[1] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter_Road#cite_note-Lugton199-1)[12] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter_Road#cite_note-time_up_for_slope-12) There was a sense of continuity from the previous ground, however, and the supporters were keen to get started again.[1] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter_Road#cite_note-Lugton199-1) The first match at Easter Road was played on 4 February 1893, a friendly against Clyde (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clyde_F.C.).[13] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter_Road#cite_note-Lugton205-13)

So in other words, we are not just the "Big Team" from Leith, we are the team that owns Edinburgh :greengrin
