If we could keep our best players, regardless of promotion or not, I'd take the cup win.

Going up will be good, but I won't be out celebrating like I was for the cup win.

If "Both" is an acceptable answer, you're not going to get many others. :hilarious

Last year it was 100% the cup. This year promotion is more important, but having said that if we win the cup again it's a brilliant season regardless of what happens in the league.

hfc rd
10-03-2017, 12:55 PM
OP has gone for both so I'll go for both as well ;)

However if I was to choose one, it would 100% be promotion. Far more important to Hibs. Failing to get promoted this year will be a massive failure!

Promotion.

But a close second would be a come back Roy of the rovers last minute victory against Celtic and even better The Rangers (again).

It has to be promotion. If we don't go up this year I seriously doubt we will be able to keep SJM, Cummings, Hanlon amongst others and it will be another squad rebuild with less money, which is the last thing we need!

We can get promoted next year or next again.
Might never win the cup again in our lifetime. Cup every day of the week.

NAE NOOKIE
10-03-2017, 01:40 PM
Both ... which would be nothing short of a miracle

But if its a choice then promotion 100% ...... A cup win would keep some folk on board for a while, but the truth is there would be nothing like the feel good effect last seasons cup win generated and our crowds, player retention and overall finances would suffer and suffer badly ..... for the future good health of this club it simply has to be promotion.

Last year: cup,

Next year: cup.

This year (with reluctance): promotion

Can't forget last years scenes, but it wouldn't be the same if we won it again. There would be an entitled arrogance, rather than a spiritual euphoria. But it's important to get trophies on the shelf and the cup is the best chance of doing this. Ultimately though, a team and club is measured by it's league status, and we need to be in the top end of the top flight now.

monktonharp
10-03-2017, 02:01 PM
cup win. more big crowds at ER and I think bigger than this season despite OF and the Gorgie mob being involved if we get promoted

J-C
10-03-2017, 02:12 PM
Definitely has to be promotion, the holy grail and cup jinx is finally over but we must get back to the big league for gate revenue, tv money and competition.

Andy74
10-03-2017, 02:13 PM
Promotion this year would be the best chance to set this club up for winning things more often in future.

Cup without promotion this year wouldn't help us build from here.

While being in the championship is rubbish, actually winning proper trophies is what it's about.

If you offered me a cup win every year, but staying in the 2nd tier, I'd probably take that.

Steve20
10-03-2017, 02:32 PM
Promotion.

Last season it was Cup all the way, but we must be promoted this season or we'll lose our better players and not many decent players are going to sign for a team that is four years in the lower leagues.

10-03-2017, 03:19 PM

Celtic- to stop to treble

The Rangers- well... For many reasons would be unimaginably brilliant! :P

calumhibee1
10-03-2017, 03:19 PM
If it had no negative impact on the club then the cup every time. What are we playing for via promotion? The chance to compete for finishing mid-upper end of the table and come nowhere near winning the league? I'd choose to see Hibs lift major trophies ahead of get promotion to an un-winnable league all day every day. However, if it meant losing all our best players then I'll go promotion, then we can get back to our outstanding recent record in the Scottish Cup next year.

theonlywayisup
10-03-2017, 03:21 PM
Here we go.............two in a row!!

If we win promotion we won't be celebrating it in 2027. But we would still remember and celebrate a 2017 Scottish Cup win and a double Scottish Cup winning team.

I can't believe anyone would say otherwise!

Jim44
10-03-2017, 03:38 PM
If we won the cup this year and missed out on promotion, I reckon we'd be up the creek without the proverbial paddle. Lennon would be sacked or would walk, most of our better players will move on and we'd be back on the treadmill yet again. The Cup might bring in a few quid to help the cause but each year in the Championship makes it all the harder to get promotion and cup wins won't always be there to keep the club performing at the level we are managing. 'Ever decreasing circles' springs to mind.

Promotion.

Go up this year and the foundation is there to (continue) to compete at the business end of the cups for years to come. Fail to do so and we might start to feel the pinch.

Absolutely no reason why we can't, or won't, compete on both fronts though.
