I'm no nationalist but I quite like her. It's great to see someone from her background getting a chance like this and taking it. She's young and learning but I think she's a better representative than most of the middle class, self serving ****s both in government and the civil service.

Totally agree on that point.


I just think she gets a lot of (online/viral) backing because she's young and different even when what she says doesn't stand up.

Her argument on trident being one example that sticks out.

Can't help wondering if you would be of a different opinion if an English Tory MP had directed anything similar to a Scottish MP ... it's not really an acceptable form of debate is it? (If she actually said what is alleged that is...)

She mumbled "don't talk *****", audible only to her colleague beside her. Compared to the volume and nature of brouhaha that surrounds PMQs and other major debates, when MPs are openly mocked and verbally bullied, that "incident" is trifling .

There might have been a point in there somewhere but suggesting you don't need nuclear weapons cause you would be dead anyway is rather missing the point about the word 'deterrent'. To use her language having nuclear missiles is actually hee haw to do with firing them back.

As for nuclear waste coming through her local train station, I'm no expert but I would be very surprised if trident missiles used nuclear fuel rods.

While a "young" less-experienced woman can certainly be forgiven for perhaps acting without the due respect for the place and occasion, it is difficult to understand why more mature adults - who should know better - also do so.

Anyway, I guess you think it will all be so much better and different in an indepedent Scotland .... will it ever be so? :rolleyes:

Ha well I hadn't either till it was mentioned on here...another two minutes on google suggests that the nuclear fuel rods that go through the station she mentioned are actually from Hunterston on the way to Sellafield and are managed by EDF energy so quite what that's got to do with nuclear deterrents (apart from they both have nuclear in the subject title) I have no idea.

I think it already is. The Scottish parliament acts and conducts it's business very differently from Westminster. We give our parliamentarians modern day stuff like buttons for voting with, (Don't ask Kezia) instead of sword hooks.:aok:

Good point, yet, by hoping Scotland "returns" to what you refer to elsewhere in the Brexit thread as the "normal state" of "independence", I can't help wondering if "you" may well be taking "us" back into the 18th century ... albeit one with voting buttons on the modern desk! :rolleyes:

The days of supranational states where one nation dominates (USSR/Russia, Yugoslavia/Serbia, Czechoslovakia/Czech, Ottoman/Turkey, Austria-Hungary/Austria) are largely over.

Smaller, independent countries mutually co-operating on the basis of representation through the EU is very much the modern norm.

There's an element of the "och, whaes like us" to the admiration of Ms Black IMO. If she was upper class and/or English but saying roughly the same things, there'd be a lot less "great performance in the Commons today" style chat around her IMO.

That said, seeing as Labour and their leader are patently unable to do so, it's good to see someone trying to hold this Tory cluster **** to account by asking a tough question now and again in a vaguely engaging manner

I've been on the same flights as her from London City (which seems to be the airport to spot Scottish politicians. Don't know where they hang out in Glasgow or Edinburgh but its usually not the BA lounges) several times. Maybe she is just "off" in the airport, but she always struck me as odd. Definitely did not give off a woman of the people vibe.

Also, she seems to travel a lot with this guy who looks like he is 16. He looks like he should be in school rather than being old enough to be working for her. I'd say he was her boyfriend if I didn't know any better.
