You may noticed the Sky televised fixtures for this week and it includes Manchester City v Stoke this coming Wednesday at 20:00.

Guess what? There are Champions' League matches between Barcelona & PSG. and Borussia Dortmund & Benfica!

So EUFA can stop Hibs TV showing a Scottish Cup replay but not stop a Premier League match being screened by Sky.

The cowering wrecks who run the SFA should hang their heads in shame.

The FA/EPL will be paying a fine to UEFA which they must have agreed in advance.

I'm sure the FA/EPL don't care about the fine and will just pay it.

The EPL can afford to pay the fines, we can't. Not the fault of the SFA on this occasion.

Roughly the same as UEFA dish out for racism and crowd trouble. That's why the big clubs take no notice.

So, in the barmy world of UEFA the fines are set at a level that is meaningless to the leagues whose televised games might actually affect the viewing figures for the champions league, but which would be crippling for leagues the televising of whose games wouldn't make a dent in the viewing figures for their flagship competition.

I don't suppose anybody from the small leagues this policy affects has tried to point out to UEFA the stupidity, not to say unfairness, of their policy?

Yeah, you just made a few million in gate money, who knows what in other revenue, and your match is being broadcasted live over the planet, but the racist chanting was totally unacceptable.. Here's a 1000 euro fine!!

Not sure how arsenal playing munich effects Scottish football. Not really understanding this whole uk team plays pish, when we are our own nation when it comes to football league. No such thing as a British league.

That's the difference when you market you're game properly - people will watch. There are plenty people that would have watched hibs vs hearts over Leicester vs sevilla

Our "National" football association and broadcasters should be embarrassed at the way our game is portrayed to the world

The SFA were quick enough to disobey UEFA AND FIFA when it came to the poppy debacle because they had England to protect them so being scared of repercussions doesn't cut it

iirc, the periscope stream I watched had 56k viewers. There would have been a massive audience for mainstream broadcast.

It has been brought forward.

In previous seasons rescheduled matches have had to be delayed until the end of the season to avoid clashing with Champions' League fixtures. They take up the vast majority of midweek slots from mid February till the end of the season. The Round of 16 takes 4 weeks, the QF 2 weeks the SF 2 weeks.

In 2013-14 Manchester City had a match called off due to bad weather and had others postponed because of FA Cup and FL Cup progress.. Had they not been knocked out of the FA Cup by Middlesbrough, they faced having to play Saturday, Monday, Thursday, Sunday. This year UEFA seem to be being ignored and as far as I can see no action has been taken or threatened.

UEFA are good at bullying clubs like Hibs but are not prepared to take on the English Premier League.

Who gets fined?
Clubs or governing body? Presumably the latter?
Surely a cost/ benefit assessment and even an attempt to pass some of the cost to the broadcaster. ..?

The strange thing is that the English Premier League weren't even allowed to stage fixtures when Champions' League matches were on regardless of whether it was televised or not.

The corruption in EUFA and FIFA has now reached a point when the rules are being ignored. The rules are clearly in restraint of trade and would not stand a legal challenge.

The SFA must have signed up to the blackout. They should be held to account by the clubs who are losing out. Scotland has been hung out to dry with the qualification rules for the Champions' League means that the SPFL winners have to go through three qualifying rounds starting in mid-summer. Now it will get worse with the preference given to once great clubs in Italy (Milan, Inter) and England (Manchester United and Liverpool) with talk of 'wildcards'.

Absolutely, they make it so difficult for Scottish clubs to progress with the amount of qualifying games they have to play so why should we agree to not televising our leagues just because of the champions league or uefa cup, SFA should take a stance.

I'll never understand how the "Champions" of any country dont automatically go through to the group stages.
It really has become a fancy trophy for the "elite clubs" whilst smaller clubs suffer.

The way i read it, was both clubs involved in the fixture get fined £100,000, considering scottish clubs on sky/bt sport get about £80,000 each, they would be losing money by doing it.

I don't actually think its a fine as such. I think UEFA make a "solidarity payment" to each Association that comply with this. I've seen a figure of £100k which our Association won't want to lose out on, while it's pocket change to the English league.

I think the rule states that no other game that kicks off at the same time as a CL game can be televised. The EPL game last year (Arsenal?) which was televised kicked off at 7.00pm IIRC and this one looks to be later. Could it be it's just a matter of moving the kick-off time 15 mins earlier or later to get round the ruling?
