Suffered a severe head injury tonight during the game and team mates had to prevent him swallowing his tongue.

How was the other player involved not sent off? Looked a cheap shot to me.

You can't swallow your tongue. Unless you cut it off I suppose.

He is conscious and stable now and there's no traumatic injuries.

Yes I know but it's a common term used to describe the blocking of airway with your tongue and has been for a long as I can remember. Not really important though as the main thing is their actions may have saved his life. Thankfully he appears to be recovering.

Agree. I'm at Atletico v Seville in a couple of weeks so hope to see him.

Quick thinking from his team mates. Torres was the source of some very memorable moments in his Liverpool days when I was down for games, always liked him.

Looked horrible. Noticed a couple of his team mates in tears so they obviously feared the worst!

After the Berbatov thread I half thought this was gonna be a suggestion that we sign him!

Hope he's alright.:aok:

Taken from the BBC:

Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres has been discharged from hospital after having tests on the head injury he suffered in Thursday's 1-1 draw with Deportivo La Coruna.

The 32-year-old spent the night in hospital after falling heavily in an aerial challenge with Alex Bergantinos.

Atletico confirmed scans showed he has "no traumatic alterations or injuries" and will need to rest for 48 hours.

He said: "Thank you all for caring for me. It was only a scare."

After former Liverpool and Chelsea striker Torres' injury in the 85th minute in La Coruna, players from both teams immediately rushed to him and called for medical help.

He was assisted for several minutes by doctors before being taken off on a stretcher and transferred to a hospital.

Been big news all day in Spain. But, as ye get older, 2 things shone through, the immediate, excellent actions/response of players nearby in the know, & the devastation of some of the younger less experienced players, to be expected of course. Has played all day on Spanish TV, but imo nowadays that scenario is cleared up quickly whereas 30/40 years ago that was a dodgy one. But good outcome which is the main thing.

Jimmy Boco definitely got a serious head knock at Ibrox.

Challenged for a header with Jonas Thern, both missed the ball and Boco took the full force of Therns head on the temple. Clib doctor was called onto the park and he was stretchered off. Think the game may have ended 1-1.

I vaguely remember a similar incident involving Colin Campbell. It was a long time ago however.

Andy Goram swallowed his tongue as well. Think it was against Rangers at ER.

It was Colin Campbell in the Skol tourney double header v Man City at Tynecastle.
Gorgie road end and Joe Corrigan was on the other end of the collision IIRC.
