View Full Version : Not a penalty

Looking at highlights on SSN.

McGregor got a touch on the ball first and the fat lump tumbled over his leg. Ball went in the direction of Macgrogor's touch and gathered by Rocky.

Will post a grainy image shortly...

My first impression at the match was that it was not a penalty. Presumably the bookings for Darren in both matches will mean he is suspended for the Ayr tie?

Not impressed with McLean tonight. Felt that the decisions went pretty much their way tonight. The amount of times they jumped into a Hibs player under high balls and we didn't get the foul was ridiculous.

My first impression at the game was never a penalty. Having seen it again on Sky Sports News I can see why it was given. Be interesting to see a replay of the foul in the box in McGinn in the first few minutes!

Wasn't sure TBH. Gutted as Rocky saved twice before it was finally bundled over. Great reaction from the team though never looked like losing a second.

Neil Lennon in his post match interview did say he thought it was a penalty. Was just annoyed at his defence being to slow to support Marciano after his 2 great saves

I thought it was a penalty at the time and have just seen it back on SSN - looks like a pen. Ball didn't change direction.

Grainy image not as promised. File upload failed, I would think because of high bandwidth from followers of other teams wanting to see high quality interaction between intelligent Hibernia supporters; and low quality Sevco yes men masquerading as journalists who want to see how to write to a demographic other than followers of Der Sturmer.

Regarding the pen, some folk will say it's difficult for the ref owing to his position running behind the players, I will say look at the direction the ball takes after the coming together - away from the goal towards the corner in the direction DM's is sliding.

Stonewaller from what I've seen unsually rash challenge by Daz but it mattered not in the long run.

As I said, after this, Rocky moves to where DM has hit ball and gathers it. Useless Yam falls over leg. And you can see from Yam's body language he's looking for his wage packet rather than a bruise on his shin.

Ref running behind gives a pen; but ball goes in direction of DM's tackling leg.

It was an absolute stonewaller, no touch on the ball and took the man out. I'm glad it was inside the box or Daz would've been sent off.

Defo a pen. Darren didnt get enough of the ball. His reaction said it all. He looked like he was worried about getting sent off but thankfully the rules have changed and you dont get that double punishment for a foul in the box for an honest challenge

[QUOTE=RagingReality;4954041]Is that rule a thing now?[/QUOTE

My 1st reaction watching on SSN was with Cyber & that it wasn't a pen as there was clear contact on the ball. The ball definitely changed direction, unless Goncalves was deliberately taking it for a walk to the corner flag to waste time & keep the score down! However, nowadays as DM then made contact with Goncalves a foul would have been given anywhere else on the pitch so technically a pen though I wouldn't have given it! Re that rule being a thing, or that thing being a rule the answer is Yes! The double punishment can still be given but in more extreme examples, eggs punching the ball off the line.

Photo evidence clearly shows the initial contact was just outside the box.

I find it hilarious that they had 3 shots on target in the whole game and they were all within 5 seconds:

The penalty - saved
The rebound - saved
The next rebound - bundled over the line

Ive watched it again a few times and its impossible to tell. Daz slides in before making contact, if you look at where his boot hits the turf its outside but its very very close. Probably right on the line.

At the game I thought Daz got a touch. Looking at the replay he definitely did. Looking at the footage the contact was outside the box and should have been a free kick. Daz would have been sent off and miss the next round but as he was booked he suffered that fate anyway. The ref was ok last night but again lots of niggly fouls by Hearts with yet again Hibs receiving more booking for less fouls. I think there was a penalty in the game and it was when McGinn was taken down early on.

I was in the famous five lower which was probably the worst angle to see it from, and I thought Darren got a touch and that it wasn't in the box. I'm surprised it was even on the edge of the box.

I used to sit in the FF lower and was always amazed at the incredible eyesight of those around me.
They could see in intricate detail what was happening at the Dunbar end and even see through players bodies. I thought they should be on the tele or at least employed by the military. Unfortunately the SFA only employ referees with the eyesight of a mole.

Even if Daz gets a bit of the ball he's not go enough on it. Had he not taken the striker out he'd have still been clean on to it. As been said, yellow and a pen or red and a free kick. Take the yellow and pen at that stage cheers.

Looking at the BBC highlights, it looks like it was a) just outside the box and b) got the ball before the man - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/scotland/39066751 about 3:15 in.

From where the ref was, could understand why it was given though.

Having said that, who cares unless an appeal would rescind the yellow?
