Started as the Hartley's Jam Factory team supposedly by Scottish guys. To be fair, the violence is nothing new and they had closed doors games in the 20s because of it. Another bit of trivia is that Alex Rae is in their top 10 all time goalscorers list.

Fair share of idiots in their support but a proper football club.

No affiliation to them whatsoever but glad milwall are having a good season. Their council tried to shaft them and they could have had to leave their stadium and probably their home city.

Not totally accurate. They were formed from JT Morton, certainly a Scottish firm that supplied tinned food, I think they were originally an Aberdeen outfit but the advent of tinned food proved lucrative in that there London. They eventually became part of the Unilever group. Jam was just a small line amongst many products.

Stand corrected though I did read it in a free local (East London) rag. The bit about violence in the 20s was also in the same article.

I'd say they've shafted the council far more times tbh.

That was rather an exaggeration. The actions of Lewisham Council have been very dodgy but the stuff about having to leave their 'historic home' crap is over the top. Millwall are based in a 1990s plastic stadium .

There is no threat to their continued occupation of the New Den although their community activities would have been curbed had the CPO of the surrounding land gone through.

Fortunately the CPO now seems to have been scrapped so maybe sense will prevail and the local authority will work with Millwall FC on a regeneration plan?

I for one, am pleased to see the likes of Millwall still in the FA Cup. hope they do well against the more well healed Tottenham guys, who on the other hand were my English heroes of the early 60's with the likes of Danny Blanchflower, Gilzean etc think the Spurs have been in mair cup finals than any other English club btw. but this could be the year for the 'wall boys the bunch o' crazy buggers they are :cb

Spoke to a couple of them in Shades one night, they had been at ER for a game and were working in the docks in Leith, they seemed not to know about the Scottish roots and one of them said there was "no way the jocks had anything to do with the club" apart from that they were a nice pair of guys and had a good laugh with them.

Milwall themselves considered the proposed regeneration to be a real threat to their continued viability.

Yes the club have moved a lot (even across the river from their historic roots) but it has all been within a fairly small geographic area.

If the New Den becomes unviable, their prospects of finding another site in London are very slim.

Just one of about a dozen teams that have a nawty reputation (Leeds Stoke Cardiff West Ham Birmingham Chelsea etc etc). Still a large percentage of decent fans of course, and definitely get stigmatised for representing a working class dockyard area. (Hibs anyone?) Hope they beat Tottenham.

They have a terrible reputation and its almost like the idiots in their fan base embrace it and pride themselves on it. They really do have a lot of ****bags that follow them. It's a shame for the normal fans, that their club is constantly dragged through the mud and it now has a bad label attached to it.

you only have to do a quick YouTube search on them and you'll find countless incidents of fighting, causing trouble in the streets etc, even fighting in the stands amongst themselves. I know every club has some idiots that follow them (ourselves included) but they really do seem to have more of these incidents than most and as I say, the idiots seem to embrace this reputation Millwall have.

Remember a big incident with them in the 90's when I was a teenager. Got my usual train down to Cardiff from Cwmbran where I lived. Got out the train station only to find a mob of them going nuts!! Police escort to the ground didn't stop them causing carnage on the way booting cars throwing stones etc.

Mental stuff. Will never forget it.

Anyone remember the ''friendly'' we played against them in 1990. The locals were very welcoming regaling us with there witty Sarf Landan banter and trying to indulge us in a mass game of football after the game where our heads were to be used as balls.
Mind you smashing up one of there boozers before the game didn't exactly endear us to the local populace.

When I lived in London I'd go to watch Millwall and never had any bother ever. I met many good people whom I'm still in touch with.
Every club has idiots. Hibs included. Put us into Google/youtube & lots of ugly incidents will come up.

The weekend was wonderful for the club, community & the fans. Long may continue!

Can't help but be drawn to Millwall's disgust at how this all developed. Which solely centres on the fact Leicester waited two days to kick up a stink.

Lovely sympathetic club.

Disgraceful Leicester goading going on in the second clip. The Millwall should be commended on their admirable restraint.

I did laugh at the footage. Dozens of 'pwopa nawty' lads being held back by about 8 stewards.

Looked around 2500 - 3000 muppets wanting a square go with LCFC fans the other day.

Tbf to them a lot of them did look like they were on the park for a laugh and to jump about a bit. The group right up by the Leicester fans just looked daft with their 'hold me back, hold me back' gestures.

Great club, excellent fans, used to go a lot to the old and new dens and made a lot of friends there when I stayed in London. Easily my favourite London experience for the peripherals though I preferred Arsenal for the football.

Bull they never got near Hibs fans after the game. What part is bull? They didn't get near Hibs because of the big police presence but they still hung around trying to have a go as we were escorted back to the station. A few Hibs fans caught outside the main escort were attacked.
