I'm still thinking about this and wondering if there isn't another foreigner that played in Scotland without having the luxury of an old firm team behind him. Larsson for now.

I would go for Laudrup though Moravcik was a very special player as well.

Larrson for me.

Larsson. Came back even better after that horror leg break, moved on and still done it at a higher level with Barca and Man U.

Larsson. The goals he scored in our league were ridiculous, but he also left Celtic at 32 and went on to play an important role in the Barca side that won the Champions League. That, together with his performances for Sweden at major tournaments, showed that he could comfortably play at the highest level, even in to his 30s. However, if we were including Sauzee then I'd obviously have to go for Big Franck :greengrin

Guess who I pick!!!!!!!

But have to say Laudrup was a great, great player- just the wrong nationality! Otherwise I'd have said him.

Isn't it?

Surely it is about the foreign player who performed the best and made the biggest impact on Scottish football.

Messi, Maradona and Pele have all played football in Scotland. Surely they are in with a shout then?

Laudrup's time at Rangers was a bit before my time so I will say Larsson. His goals tally for Celtic was unreal and then went on to do pretty well at an even higher level at Barcelona despite being into his 30s.

I can't believe it's been 10 years since his loan spell at Manchester Utd!

Laudrup was great but Larrson was in Scotland for longer and helped change the balance of power in Glasgow. Laudrup joined a Rangers team that already had the upper hand.

That's why the Swede gets my vote... and I happen to think he was an even better player than Laudrup.

Has to be Larrson, if you look at the careers after leaving Celtic /Rangers, Laudrup never really hit the same heights were Larrson didn't look out of place at Barca, Man U

Both fantastic players but when you consider what Larsson cost, his injury and what he achieved after leaving Celtic it has to be him. Alex Ferguson described him as world class so that will do for me.

Different kind of players, depends on what you like watching, goals being scored or someone going past a player, I prefer the latter, Laudrup is the best player I've seen in Scotland

Agree with those saying larson for overall impact, value, etc

Bit laudrup was a more gifted player in terms of skill, and a nice one to watch.

A lot of larson's skills were in his head (if that makes sense) - attitude, positioning, composure etc

Not to say larson wasnt texhnically very good too, but i cant remember seeing somebody with the ability to beat players running with the ball as laudrup (also worth remembering his significant impact for his country).

Both exceptional, but marginally Laudrup for me.

Because I grew up watching a lot of Livingston games with my dad, David Fernandez is probably my favourite international player to have graced Scotland. Nowhere near the calibre/impact of Larsson or Laudrup, but his trickery and ability to do something totally unexpected was outstanding, and like nothing I'd seen before! He ruined his career by moving to Celtc though.

In terms of modern era, Moussa Dembele has been a genius signing for Celtc - bought for Ł500k and they'll be able to name their price for him in the summer - and wherever he ends up, he'll likely be a success. One of the most gifted players to come through Scottish football in recent years - if he were to stay at Celtc the same length of time as a Larsson or Laudrup, he'd be in the same discussion in 10 years time.

Marco Negri, scary thing is the goals he scored weren't even in a full season, think he only played about half the season because Sergio Porrini hit him in the eye with a squash ball, was never the same player after that

Remember one goal he scored against Dundee Utd I think, chipped it over someone twice then volleyed it in from about 25 yards, think he scored 4 or 5 that day

Something like that. It is (or at least was) a list compiled by giving every international manager three votes for the world's best player. Latapy received one vote (which was enough for joint 50th or whatever).

I think he received his vote from Charlie Cook, who was the coach of the Virgin Islands. Or it may have been Charlie Virgin, coach of the Cook Islands.

I liked Latapy a lot, real shame he went to Rangers (RIP) should have stayed at Hibs. Always wished we would have taken a punt on him he might have fared better at us than Rangers. For me there is no better sight in football than a gifted player with dreadlocks. Robin Nelisse anyone? Hardly a gifted player but he had dreadlocks :hilarious Always wanted an AZ Alkmaar jersey because of him.

After he moved from Dundee to Rangers his form was good enough to earn him a place in the Argentina squad for the 2002 world cup. He didn't make an appearance though.

Larsson at least played for a side capable of competing in Europe. When he did go he showed what he was able to do at the very highest level with Barca (13 goals-40 games). Not bad for someone who was then aged 33 and didn't always play from the start.

As others have mentioned Laudrup was technically a better player but Larsson through his awareness and positional sense among other things was the better of the two.

Larsson also scored 35 goals in 58 matches for Celtic in European competitions which is pretty profilic by anyones standard.

Found this list petty interesting:

Players who have scored 50 goals or more in UEFA club competition*
83: Cristiano Ronaldo (POR, Sporting CP, Manchester United, Real Madrid)
80: Lionel Messi (ARG, Barcelona)
77: Raúl González (ESP, Real Madrid, Schalke)
70: Filippo Inzaghi (ITA, Parma, Juventus, Milan)
67: Andriy Shevchenko (UKR, Dynamo Kyiv, AC Milan, Chelsea)
62: Gerd Müller (GER, Bayern München)
62: Ruud van Nistelrooy (NED, Heerenveen, PSV Eindhoven, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Hamburg)
59: Thierry Henry (FRA, Monaco, Juventus, Arsenal, Barcelona)
59: Henrik Larsson (SWE, Feyenoord, Celtic, Barcelona, Manchester United, Helsingborg)
56: Eusébio (POR, Benfica)
54: Alessandro Del Piero (ITA, Juventus)
50: Alfredo Di Stéfano (ARG, Real Madrid)
50: Didier Drogba (CIV, Marseille, Chelsea, Galatasaray)

Larsson is keeping pretty good company there although a good proportion of his goals would have been in the Uefa cup as opposed to the Champions League.
