Looking at the squads today it was interesting to see the contrast in the starting 11 and the nationalities of both.

Hearts - 7 Nationalities with only 4 Scots
Hibs - 3 Nationalities with 8 Scots

If we look at the overall squad (according to wikipedia)

Hearts - 14 Nationalities with 9 Scots
Hibs - 4 Nationalities with 19 Scots. (3 if we are tallking British)

Is this to do with the level of players we can attract or just different signing policy? I think it certainly helps having fewer nationalities especially when it comes to derbies like today - players from here and England will know what it means. But it seems strange since weren't Hearts supposed to be the future of Scottish football?

Looking at the squads today again we are far more the experienced derby side with only two newbies to the derby (Holt & Rocky) whereas Hearts had 7.

Hopefully will give us the advantage on 22nd.

How does it break down when it's pronounceable and unpronounceable names?

Just kidding, I did think something similar at the game - I worked out that there was only 2 derby debutants in the Hibs team but didn't know that Hearts had so many different nationalities.

It did become clear that some of their players didn't really fancy the derby - hopefully Cathy and Nanny McPhee pick them again for the replay.

Regarding nationalities and Hearts, do Orcs, Gnomes, Hobbits, pixies and neandrathols really count?

Hey, do they not call us hobbits?

They obviously have never read (or seen) Lord of the Rings as they would realise that the wee fellas are the big heroes of the story [emoji3]

Not bothered where our players are from, provided they win us games. The two clubs do have very different transfer policies right now though.

I was thinking about this very thing today and speaking with my son about it.

Hearts supporters were telling me their resurgent team were going to walk all over us.

When i thought about it though, yeah maybe their new players had played in derbies in their own countries and would know the passion and noise they had to play in.

BUT they had not played against Hibs at all and all they knew about us came from their managers lap top?

I dont think they knew how we played and seemed to be taken aback sometimes in our hard tackling, especially in Barclay......

strange what the air around Gorgie does to you?

Was thinking the same when compiling the figures. This is the squad not including players on loan elsewhere which might be the key as they only have 1 player out on loan. Hearts have 11, we have 5, aberdeen have 8, st j 6 as other examples.

Hertz have no soul, their squad is like an EPL club roster minus the pedigree.
