View Full Version : Favourite ever goal in an Edinburgh Derby (Excluding Hanlon's!)

Aside from the obvious going mental at the Paul Hanlon stoppage time equaliser last season at tynecastle last season, what would you say is a goal in the derby you have enjoyed the most ? whether it was a crucial goal, significance of the game was great, if it was one of your first memories of the derby or simply just because it was a great goal.

Latapy volley in 6.2 game sticks out for me as I was only about 8 or 9 years old, and he was one of my if not my favourite Hibs player at the time, another that stands out was Wotherspoon deflected effort in 2013, just remember Easter Road being packed and relief from the stands as it was a game we just couldnt afford to lose.

Difficult to pick!

Latapy in 6-2 is up there, for the same reasons mentioned above - I was 11 and to go 6-1 up against them was mental!

Riordan's goal down towards the South Stand when he cut in from the left and dispatched it into the top corner past Gordon was a peach!

Sheils vs them at the PBS to go 2-1 up after yet another Simon Brown debacle was mental.

O'Connor in the last minute of the "we only need 10 men" game.

It starts to really hit home how many goals have caused absolute scenes in the stands against them!

Latapy in the 6 2 for me but special mention too for Farid's in the 2 nil win at easter road in 2015. That was my son's first derby win and the big man's wonderful finish confirmed it. I've got a photo of the smile on my boys face just after the celebrations, and it's a special one.

surprised more people havent mentioned this ! same for me. Was better it took a wicked deflection off that big f***y zaliukas aswell. It was a great atmosphere at end, to lose after what happened year before would been unbareable, so was massive relief to win that one.

Cummings in replay last year is also highlight, more because that goal brings me back to the sunshine on leith at the end. the video on youtube by sky sports i still look back on now and again

O'Connor's just for the sheer emotion of it all following such a shocking refereeing decision.

I knew a steward who previously had a nominal rangers affiliation and was covering the east that game. He felt atmosphere so good that he's been a Hibee ever since!

The other one has to be Kevin Harper's in the 2-1 game in the season we went down.

King Paddys 99th minute equaliser at Tynie in 75 (i think)...older jambos still moan that the ref played too much extra time and he scored after the pubs had opened (pubs shut between 2 and 5 in those days for younger viewers) Amazing scenes as he scored into a rammed hibs end, a wee invasion as well as delirious hibbies spilled onto the trackside.

Quite a few to mention.

Geebsys winner at Tynie to end that horrendous run. Very fitting it was one of our own that scored the winner.
Latapys in the 6-2 game, the cherry on the top.
Shiels winner at Tynie in the 2-1 game.
GoC winner in the 10 men game at ER.

One not mentioned or perhaps 2 were the goals scored by GoC and Boozy in the 2-0 game when those fuds came to ER on the back on their unbeaten start to the season.
Their moronic fans had been going on about how we were no longer their rivals as they had moved on to a new level - all this based on the back of an 8 game unbeaten run. Deluded or what.
Celebrated those goals like we had won the league!

Kevin harpers 20yd volley into the top corner on New Years day. Had jst been gubbed 7-0 from der hun, yams scored 5 minutes in. Had to listen to them for half an hour or so til O'Neill equalised with a bullet header. Few minutes later, long ball headed into the air by keef, Harper. Boom.

Also remember Ally McLeod scoring a cracker late on at the PBS ( before it became a bus shelter) to win 1-0.

I think that was the first goal? Craig pen was the winner.

:agree: And it was one of the most pointless penalties conceded in the history of football. It was not a good performance that night, against a threadbare hearts team. In the pub afterwards we all reckoned Hibs had been lucky. Then we chucked away a two goal lead in our next game. Then.....

One that I enjoyed a lot which hasn't been mentioned was the James Collins winner under butcher, looked as if we'd thrown it away in typical hibs fashion until the goal came

That was Liam "Boooooo" Craig

Harper's was a magnificent goal & was IIRC our 1st ever SPL goal. Loved Ally's goal also but think it was an equaliser, even better really!

Kevin Harper also scored a cracker in a new year's day game just before half time.

Steve Archibald but at ER. He feathered a header over Henry Smith from what felt like the 6yd line. Game ended in a draw so was one of the 22....

Houchin's on his debut is up there too.

Didn't Archibald also hit the inside of the post in that game as well? Akso, I wonder if Mr Cummings was seeking to copy the great man when he tried something similar at the PBS last season.

The 7th goal scored by Alan Gordon not just the header but the build up involving Shades and Duncan .

I love that goal too. Second and fourth are also good ones from that game.

My favourite ever has to be Cummings winner in the last Derby. Part of the legend now.

Stevie Archibald at the old Tynie. Most mental celebration ever behind the goals. What a birthday present 😀

Kenny Miller's in millennium Derby. Even at 2-0 And being ten times better than them there was always a chance of a dodgy penalty.
