Was thinking about players who had played for us that I had totally forgotten about , weather it be bad players or average players

The big Lithuanian who had a great game at Ibrox(can't mind his name)
Marc libra ( great player for us on his day)
Tom smith ( injuries stopped this guy from being a very good player for us)

Any other that other people remember ?

Valdas Trakys is the Lithuanian guy.

Not really forgotten as I remember him but Morten Hyldgaard. Goalkeeper signed at the same time as Daniel Andersen. Came with a decemt reputation but not sure he played more than a couple of games.

One I genuinely can't remember playing for Hibs is Freddie Daquin. He's often refered to as ex Hibs but I literally can't remember a game he played for us.

It was before the 'new' Gorgie Road Stand was built because I remember sitting in the asbestos stand when Hibs used to get a section of that for derbies. 93 or 94 if I had to guess.

Doing very well now for Lens in Ligue 1.

He was in the squad the season we went down, signed by Fenlon, but Butcher hardly ever played him. He preferred guys like that right sided striker, who's name evades me, OTJ, and that donkey who was Arsenal's under 21 captain. The arsenal boy has to be up with one of the worst centrebacks I've seen in modern times.

Don't think we've ever had a player that made it as clear that he didn't want to be at Hibs. Took an age to actually get him to come up, and when he actually got here he clearly didn't fancy it and left after one sub appearance. One wonders why he actually agreed in the first place.

From Wiki...
He started his professional career at FC Sochaux-Montbéliard in 1985, where he played for eight years, before joining Olympique de Marseille in 1993. He never broke into the first team at Marseille, however, and left after just one season to join Nîmes Olympique. He then went on to play for Perpignan Canet FC, Toulouse FC and CD Toledo between 1995 and 1997, when he joined Swiss side FC Basel. In 1999, he signed for Scotland's Hibernian before retiring in 2000.

Matyus was a good player but I think he had visa issues. I met someone who claimed to be one of his mates at a pub in Budapest once, it was the first thing he said when I mentioned Hibs. Seems too obscure for someone to make up.

Zambernardi was also a good player although a bit of a bomb scare at times.

Going back a bit, I always though Lyndon Andrews was ok.

Mike Franks - Canadian goalkeeper signed as cover. Did he ever get a game?

Jonathan Baillie - a magnificent performance against Celtic in the League Cup but had to retire through injury way too young.

Alan Reid - most obscure player to start a cup final for Hibs?

Brilliant thread btw. Hibs.net does pointless.

It's funny to hear fans of other clubs doing this too though, and the more exotic the name the better. I remember being with a group of Dundee United fans reminiscing about the short Tannadice career of Jean-Jacques Misse-Misse, a player who was terrible at his peak, will no doubt be worse now he's retired but would have us wetting ourselves with excitement were we to be linked with him, purely based on his name

Lyndon Andrews is in an exclusive club of players who only make 1 or 2 appearances, do really well and you wonder how it didn't really work out for them. Andrews is a 6-2 hero.

Brian Rice.

Played for us in the early eighties and was a technically gifted skillful midfielder. Brian Clough signed him for Notts forest in 85.

Believe he ran into gambling debts in Quatar around 2012-13 and was desperate to raise cash to get him home from there. Don't know what's happened since then.

The early eighties was mostly a struggle for us but also some very high points for us too as we seen around then 84 85... the emergence of some very talented young players like Collins, Kano, May, Weir etc beginning to break through into becoming first team regulars.

Some of the worst times then but also some fantastic ones too as we began to rebuild following relegation 1980.

After the 2001 SC final I bumped into him being escorted up ER by 2 youngsters on Alex McLeishs orders because he was absolutely wrecked. We signed Stuart Beedie and Billy Kirkwood both at the same time from Dundee Utd, both their time at Hibs is easily forgettable. Also, we got Tom Carson on loan from Dundee for a few games, one of which was a midweek game at Parkhead and Carson was terrific, we still got beat though!

We started the season with Gottskalkson in goals, he dropped out after a disaster (one of many) at home to Motherwell. Chris Reid came in, had a mare in Duffys final game (ironically against Motherwell) then Billy McNeill brought Oli back in for an away trip to Aberdeen (3-0 defeat) before McLeish was appointed and made Gunn his 1st signing. Gunn steadied the ship somewhat at the back and we almost pulled off a great escape.

On the subject of Oli Gottskalkson, he was actually pretty good for us in the 1st division season but his form dipped again when we were promoted. Not sure if it was the bigger crowd or what but he was a wreck in the premier league. Sure he later went awol from a club down south after missing/failing a drugs test.

Edit: Just done a quick Google search and Oli has had some life since leaving Hibs. I was right about the drugs test but since then he has been sentenced to 10 months in jail for robbery, housebreaking and violent attack and a further 4 months for similar charges again.

Haven't read the whole thread but if they've not already been mentioned - Jay Shields & Jamie McCluskey.

I remember Jay Shields making his breakthrough into the first team and thought he looked like a good wee player at Right Back. Along with the winger Jamie McCluskey, he had a few good showings for us. I'm sure he set the record for the youngest SPL player to be fielded, might be wrong on that though. I was about 12/13 when they played for us so wasn't on hibs.net or didn't even know what Wikipedia was so it always remained a mystery what happened to these two until recently. (Jay's at Bo'Ness, Jamies at Stranraer after playing out somewhat underwhelming careers).

We were sitting on a stairway in their main stand. When a steward told us to move I politely told him to find us seats (not necessarily together) and we'd take them no problem. How anyone can suggest Bryan Gunn was a failure for us is unbelievable. McLeish signed him and Brebner just after taking over and the pair of them were excellent in our bid to avoid relegation.

You're spot on re Oli too when we were in the First Division. I remember a game down at Stranraer where we won the game very late on and he made some outstanding saves that kept us in the game. He was very good for us in that league and I don't know why he couldn't hack it in the top league.

It is sad what's happened to him since.

Graham Donald
Chris somebody, scored a screamer at Tynie and marked Paul Gasgoigne or Brian Laudrup out of a game. Was one of our own players who we brought through the ranks. I think he ended up in Iceland at one point but could be totally wrong about that.

Stanton's story of offering a contract to Malky Robertson after bumping into him on the street was a marker of how low Hibs had fallen ( memory is a bit fuddled right now, but that's how I remember ?)

Malky's laddie Sandy was comng down to the Meadows for a game of football on a Sunday when he was playing for Rangers. Couldnae make it up!

That's how I recall it.

He should have got the jail for impersonating a goalkeeper.

There were 2 Norwegians we signed, I think it was mid-80's? I seem to remember one of them being no bad, the other not so good. They might have been Miller signings. Can't remember their names, no doubt somebody on here might remember them.

Two Willie Irvine's, one was magnificent for a season the other one was also rubbish. The former Willie was so good (for a season) he has his own song

Which one? We've had 2 :greengrin. If you mean the one in the 80's, have to disagree. I thought he was excellent.
