View Full Version : Signings that excited you but didn't live up to expectations

Mark McGraw - hopeless
Hakim Sar Temsoury - totally hopeless
James McPake - not terrible but I hoped for better
Scott Robertson - had pedigree but failed to deliver
Liam Craig - thought he'd be a player for us but only played well occasionally

Who was the young Trinidadian striker we signed around Latapy's time who did little?

Others?

Yeah young McGraw (obv)! Aye he looked reasonable at one point but how many goals did he score for us? Beat Liverpool to his signature too, allegedly...

Alan O'Brien without a doubt. Remember being told he was "Sproule on a motor bike", he had caps for his country, had played for newcastle etc. and that generally we had landed an absolute gem.

Oh how badly that turned out. One of the worst players i've seen in my time watching hibs. Dreadful.

Yantorno. Bags of talent but his injury was always going to be tough to get over.

Mark Brown. Always thought he had looked good against us but he was pretty disappointing for us.

James McPake. Exactly what we needed when on loan, heart on the sleeve type. We couldn't not sign him that summer but he was exposed as a pretty limited defender. Made the game look difficult which is never a good sign.

For the younger viewers. Brogan ( as was Bobby Torrancw) was a prolific goalscorer in the lower leagues ( mainly with St Johnstone) but he never cut it at Hibs. Tommy Craig had a fine career and came here in the twilight of his career. Hibs were in a dark period and he didn't do much in the season he was around.

Stephen Glass was a decent footballer, but he had injury issues. He did ok at Hibs, but never really lived up to the reputation he arrived with. For me, he lacked heart and fight. Disappeared too often on the pitch.

IIRC Tommy Craig was more a coach at ER and only played when the squad was thin due to injuries or suspensions.

Just checked and he made one appearance for Scotland prior to joining Hibs, none whilst at ER and a further 24 whilst at the Pars. He scored four goals at international level. He was at loan at Dunfermline and it may be that he was capped during that season.

Here's a mildy controversial one, Kevin McAllister.

No doubt he was an excellent footballer, but he wasn't at his best at Hibs. Probably linked to the way he was employed, when actually picked, by Alex Miller. He had been outstanding at Falkirk and he excelled again on his return. Didn't quite live up to expectations at Hibs

Aye, Craig probably did have a coaching role at the club and was obliged to mAke the odd appearance. A bit like John Blackley on his return. Seem to remember beating Aberdeen with the Sloop looking large of belly, but still excelling at the back.

Another twilight of the career signing was John Connolly, former St Johnstone and long term resident of the top flight in England. Came to Hibs with a great pedigree, but was well past his best.
