Does anyone know for certain how many players from last years squad received winners medals??

Carheenlea

I know of one who played a big part in an earlier round who didn't. The club only got a certain number of medals, but had the option to pay for further if desired apparently.

As far as I remember, anyone that was in the squad that day got a medal. No one else did.

:rules:

3. Awards to Players, Officials and Match OfficialsThe Association shall present a medal or a souvenir in such forms as the Board may decideto each of the players, to each of such substitutes as are eligible, the Manager or HeadCoach and to the match officials, in the Final Tie.

So basically the 11 starting players, the 7 subs and Stubbs.

That I don't know.

Edit - posts above clear that up.

The club was given 18 winners medals in total.

There was no option to buy more.

I wonder why it wasn't taken up for the likes of Dolan and also the players who played a part in us winning like KT and King Dom.

19 Jack.

11 players, 7 subs and AS.

Surely - he was on the subs bench so would be horribly unfair if he did not.

Why? If someone sold it, it was there's to sell.

hopefully all the players in the losing side got their losers medals, especially the players that ended up staying in hospital for a few weeks whilst their life-threatening injuries were treated

Very disrespectful to sell it so soon. We've not even started our defence of the trophy yet.

I can understand someone selling a medal after they retire because they need the money however.

Weird if true - why anyone would want to sell a piece of history is lost on me.

Maybe he just felt it was worthless because the players didn't get to do the post match lap of honour? 😉

Because I cannot guarantee it to be correct.

I think it is their choice though. They could sell or auction it for a good cause, but it is their medal and what they do with it is up to them. We also don't know the circumstances of the sale- perhaps they made someone very happy? .... Or it was sold so that it could benefit someone? We don't know. Either way, it's really none of our (the fans') business.

Not saying it was him because I honestly don't know who sold it.

However do you think the medal would mean a lot to Chris Dagnall?

For an unused sub, especially one with no particular emotional attachment to the club, I'm not sure a medal would mean that much.

That's different based on why and the fact he said it before we won.

It's not different if someone has done it for the same reason. And we don't know if anyone has done it.

Brilliant thread this, first it's the club not buying KT a medal but buying them for others, now a mystery player has offended everyone by selling his medal but no one will say who or for how much. Is any of it true? probably not.

Classy.

Stubbs did not auction his medal. Hibs historical bought it from him & the money was going to charity.

The "buying extra medals" thing has been debunked.

"Everyone" is not offended, in fact, hardly anyone is.

Theirs to sell. They were there. Won on day. Medal nice but memory is everything. Dagnal a career nomad could see reason cash in but whoever it is theirs to do so. Will only go up value id have thought worth holding on to for a bit.

I know it's the same in other countries but I always find it incredibly tight when certain players/coaching staff don't get medals. If your part of the seasons squad then you deserve a medal, especially if you've played in earlier rounds.

Given the amount of players that are in the top teams these days they could be handing out medals like confetti. Not like the good old days 11 players & 2/3 subs.
Next it will be Tamworth Mccourt for a medal.

Ach maybe so. That's where I feel sorry for guys like big Farid, he'd have given anything to have contributed or been part of that run!

It's a shame if a medal has indeed been sold, all you can hope for it's either sold to 1 ecstatic hibee or the money's gone to a noble cause

surely if a scottish cup final medal was up for sale everyone would know about it, unless a player was trying to sell one for as low a price as possible.

I won loads of medals when playing, i couldnt tell you where any of them are now. Obviously not the same standard but i dont need those medals, i have the memories.

And if someone would have been daft enough to offer me money for them, i'd have sold them in a flash.

See no problem in this whatsoever. Player has earned the medal and has the right to do whatever they want with it. Probably made someone very happy with their purchase and earned a bit extra cash.

Likely suspects: Oxley, Gunnarsson, Dagnall
Very unlikely suspects: Gray, Hanlon, McGregor, Stevenson, Hendo.

Nah, not having gunnarsson as a suspect.

Nothing against him, just his short spell with the club and the fact he may never play on the UK again.
Similarly, I thought about adding Conrad, then went ... Naw.
Okay, I'm happy to remove Gunnarsson from the list of suspects.
