First Hal display should be his bench mark every week! So far I can only describe it as tremendous

Tonight Bartley has put in one of best defensive midfielder displays I have seen in a long time . He has been outstanding so far. All season I've been wondering what has happened to him but tonight Marvin is back to his best and when he is playing like this it's really difficult to moan about Lennon dropping Martin.

Never did buy the Scott Martin is clearly a better player chat. Scott's time will come but Bartley still a good asset to have.

It's the right sort of game for him. United get forward quickly, and he looks great sniffing out any threats through the middle.

If you're on top without much reply, he's wasted a bit, but he's a natural competitor, and he's got the chance to compete today.

Outstanding first half. Lucky he's a hard **** or he'd struggle to make the second half.

I would say we've been on top, largely without reply, tonight. Bartley one of the main reasons for that.

Unsure if that's us agreeing or disagreeing haha!

As stated in thred I started, tremendous is what I said at half time. However I agree about the opposition. I know utd have not done Much and most of that is down to Bartley. But when we play the raiths and queens rtf when it's 10 behind the ball and he has too much time on ball to think and pass he is not as stand out. I would say since he came his best games have been against the 'bigger' teams rangers, hearts etc. I'd love to see him play in the prem as he could be a very big player in that league

I totally agree with this post , there are games where we really need a Marvin type player and there's games where we need to have a more attacking threat in the side. All of that aside he was brilliant tonight and a big part of this side

Bartley was fantastic tonight, although against the dross in this league who put 10 men behind the ball, i'm not sure we really need him in those games.

As someone else mentioned, when we get up he will probably be one of the first names on the team sheet.

Bartley shows up very well against better standard teams. Has to be said, but against the lesser teams he's usually been a waste of a jersey and poor.

Brilliant tonight though!!

:top marksBig Marv was my man of the match tonight. However it was a toss up between him and JC as a player who scores two goals in a game should always be a candidate for man of the match. But big Marv was a revelation tonight as was the team. The back four were tremendous as was Laidlaw in goals.

Well done Lenny for a fantastic all round team performance with many stand outs.

God bless the Hi bees!!!

Been a heavy critic of him at times and was baffled that he was in over Martin (if Martin isn't injured) but he was excellent tonight in both defending and even contributing to attacks which has usually been the main weakness in his game. :top marks

Agree. He will be an asset in games against SPL quality opponents. Scott Martin is more of an attacking threat I feel and will offer more at this level. Bartley gets a 10 tonight though and will be hard to drop him!

He was fabulous all game. Excellent defensively as usual but it was going forward that really surprised me.

Some lovely turns in the middle of the park that were John mcginn-esque. And he even chipped a ball in where Cummings should have scored.

Deserved his MoM!

Martin is definitely a better attacking player and if he continues to play as he has I fully beleive if/when mcginn is sold on (hopefully for a tidy profit) we will have a more than capable replacement in him

Been a big critic of him lately. That was a totally different Bartley. He was like a man possessed when we didn't have the ball and actually looked to go forward when he had it.

Good performance all round but I thought he was man of the match by an absolute mile.

Superb display by big Marv tonight, this is exactly the sort of game that he revels in where we need somebody to mop up and stifle the attacking threat of the opposition in front of the back 4 .... did everything right and deserved his MOM in a game where we didn't have any failures.

Bartley was the bossman in that midfield. He took no **** from anyone. His challenges were outstanding.

Was delighted he got MOM despite the ref trying to take the edge off his performance by giving him a soft booking early in the second half. Notice the United players trying to push him to make a silly challenge to put him off but the big fella kept his cool and reslly showed what a class player he is. Great asset to have... how often have we said we need another Matty Jack player

I love Bartley but he scares me when I watch him through no fault of his own. I can't remember another Hibs player who seems to get very little ref decisions going in his favour. How often is he tackeld and gets nothing and how often does he win the ball cleanly but is seen to have fouled and gets a yellow or a red card?

Superb display!

His "problem" is that's his type of game where Hibs need to stop other teams playing.

Unfortunately, especially at home, playing him in centre mid means he has a lot of the ball rather than breaking up play.

Should we go up he's first name on the team sheet.

Bartley gave a solid knock 'em down performance using his strength to best effect. He's always going to attract attention from refs because of the way he plays.
In the SPL where opponents are a tad quicker he'll need to keep his fitness levels up.

Maybe the new formation with an emphasis on wide players means Marvin can thrive in any game now? Need presence in my he middle of the park and he was phenomenal.

A must keep if we get promoted.
