Different commentators pronounce it so differently, so what IS the definitive answer? (Should we even care?)

Get it right up you DUFC!

I always thought it was pronounced Alpa.

Slanty eyes Rob McLean seems to pronounce it 'ALABA'

Think they just make it up!

I think native speakers tend to roll the 'l', rather - not as much as 'Alaba', more like 'Allba'?

The problem is that folk from Lewis pronounce things slightly differently from folks from Skye, or from Sutherland, or Wester Ross.

And as for the way learners from Weegieland speak ...

However, I have a number for friends from Scarinish and Balemartine and Crossapol who would assure you that the only proper Gaelic is the Gaelic they speak in Tiree.

So if you really want to know how to pronounce "Alba" correctly, you'll have to find a Tirisdeach.

:tin hat:

Great half time features and I think they do the football well tbh. One thing that is a major annoyance however is lack of HD! Being transported back to 2006.

Agree, great package they put out (even if we don't know how to pronounce 'Alba' correctly 😉)

whats more annoying and frustrating is the amount of times when the game is raging on and they're too busy scanning the crowd or showing the subs bench :grr:

Time for a red button update so you can listen to commentary in English like on Welsh channel S4C where most rugby games you can listen to Welsh or English commentary. :agree:
