Heard from a source Lennon is after him and discussions have taken place as Fortune's contract is up in January. However Southend are weighin up a renewal as Nile Ranger has just been hit with Injury... Anyone else heard anything similar?? Can only really remember him from his time at celtic what's everyone's thoughts?

Absolutely not! He was brutal in his 'prime' I really worry if this is the calibre of player we are looking at.

I haven't seen him play in a long time and want to be careful about judging players without current evidence but not the kind of signing I want us to be making.

A definite no from me and it would make me even more worried about Lennon if it is true. The Stubb's policy, which I thought was shared by the board, of signing young quality players was a very good one. Lennon seems to think the opposite way which is far more risky particularly for players in their mid thirties where you may get a short term return on the pitch but there will be no resale. Fortune has only started around 15 games in the last calendar year and is a goal every 6 games or so in his career as a striker.

Are any of the Lisbon lions free?

Players connected to other clubs are also available.

10 goals in the past 5 years? 35 years old?
While its at least an admission from Lennon that Holt has been a failure I fear it would be repeating the error. If this is true then I think we are in big trouble and looking at the play offs again.

Exactly mate, showed massive potential at united previously. If we are looking at strikers in our budget. Forget the journey man and bring in someone with potential. As you said 24

Lets not slate the manager too much here. A poster has heard from "a source" that we are interested which effectively means **** all.

A quick look at his Wikipedia page says Lennon actually got rid of him sharpish when he took over at Celtic yet he now wants to recruit a 35 year old version? Doubt it.

I love how riled out everyone is over another rumour though

If it is it's quite believable - washed up and past it old guard seems to be one of Lennon's tastes

Sadly I agree. Recruitment has been worrying me from the minute he walked in the door. It just seems all very lazy. I'm hoping there is no substance to this.

Any money we have should be invested in creating better chances.

The strikers currently on the books at Hibs have their failings but I doubt our budget extends to any player who is going to score significantly more goals from bad chances or who is going to convert a significantly higher percentage of the good chances.

Our biggest problem at the moment is that we don't create enough good chances.

List players at Hibs who can:
- Go past a man using skill
- Beat a man with pace
- Put in good crosses with any kind of consistency
- Hit a killer pass that puts a man into space
- Hit the byeline and cut the ball back
- Shoot from distance
- Hit a good free kick

Shinnie looks like he can hit the odd killer pass and Boyle can beat folk for pace and both those things were instrumental to the times we've played well recently. Jason hit a good free kick against Morton and that got us a goal.

I'd like us to get in 1 or 2 players who can do some of the above consistently at the level we're at and I think that's more "in budget" as it's easier to do at the level we're at while scoring a higher percentage of chances and scoring from poor chances are a skill that is less dependent on the quality of the opposition.

Oh Great another 35 year old over the hill player, just what we don't need.

Exactly, that seems to be Lennons main scouting policy. Sign 30 odd year old has-beens. Signing these sorts of players is part of the reason we ended up in this league in the first place. Don't get me wrong you get the odd one who works out but most are just dragging out the final part of their career and looking for one last decent pay day.

Holt for example, brilliant goalscorer in his day, scored a barrel load for Norwich and is a legend for them but nowadays he's a far far cry from that and I must say I really haven't been very impressed with him so far at hibs.

How many 30 odd year has beens has he signed exactly?

You are getting all het up over a crazy rumour, I could see your point if we signed him but for me you are just looking for an excuse to hang him.

Lennon's signings and their ages:

Holt - 35
Shinnie - 27
Marciano - 27
Eardley - 28
Commons - 33
Graham - 29
Forster - 23 (resigned by Lennon)

So 4 players at the age of what would normally be considered their prime years and 2 players with vast experience at a much higher level in their 30s.

Lets not start making things up just to have a pop at the manager.

Off course he has been a failure so far. As a striker you are judged on goals and assists. His record has been woeful. We are struggling to score goals and apart from a new nice touches in areas of the pitch that aren't threatening the opposition, he has brought nothing to the party

Exactly! With the large amount of possession we have in games we create very few high quality chances.
