Totally unexpected. Must be fed up of going against Lewis all the time.

Wonder who will replace him as all drivers signed up to teams??

Strange one that - right out of the blue, but fair enough, the strain and stress are enormous in F1, pity though would have been good to see him battling LH next year ...

Understandable really. Imagine turning up to your work and having to see that wee scrote Lewis Hamilton all the time. I'd quit tae.

Wherlein from manor is the Mercedes test driver, but would be a risky choice.

I'd love to see Paul Di Resta get a drive for a team next season.

Respect. Just read his Twitter thing, seems he had his mind made up for a while. Brave decision.

I'm not sure it's a brave decision. The brave thing to do would've been to defend his crown. He's set out to become world champion and he's achieved that. He's walking away a champion and a multi millionaire. I just don't think his heart was in it anymore

Big call from nico today. I can see why he would decide now is the time in going out on top and with the changes coming next season there is every chance Mercedes could be off the pace. Who merc being in now is any ones guess wherlein & ocon are to raw just now Paul di resta is the reserve driver at Williams so there could be a chance there or even JB for a season they could also take a chance on alonso. Should be an exciting season next year. On a side note good to hear the French gp could be making a come back

I was meaning brave decision to jack it in because of what he is prepared to lose. Perhaps he was standing to lose more if he done another season, his wife maybe?
