When I first read about it I thought it sounded a bit harsh, but now I've seen it I think he's lucky that the police aren't involved.

Woudnt be surprised if the Police look at that. That's about as blatant assault as you can get.

Yep, if that happened in the street he'd be charged. What a bellend I hope he gets done to be honest!

Considering Police Scotland seem to be charging people for "goading" Sevco fans at the final you would think this guy would already be lifted.

That's not too different to when Riordan was poleaxed by a Hun player in the 2004(?) Semi Final at Hampden.

Not seen by the Referee and no retrospective action taken.

Shocking. Hat could have had serious implications for the player on the receiving end of that.

12 games not enough. Minimum of a season

He should be in the jail for an assault like that. If he wasn't a footballer he would be.

Duncan Ferguson received a 3 month prison sentence for a headbutt. This IMO is way worse.

Not to condone the DF incident but it was a clash between two players and in the heat of the moment he loses his temper and lashes out, But the player in this video knows what hes doing, totally premeditated he waits until all eyes are on something else before planting and elbow. Cowardly act that could have had serious health implications to the defender.

Football players are in the privileged position of being paid doing something they love and also being role models to many kids, but behaviour like that should see the privilege removed.

Coward of a man. Needs banning indefinitely. No place in any sport for that sort of behaviour.

That assault has no place on the football pitch. If an amateur player had done that he'd be banned for life.

Should have been more, i once had an altercation on the pitch and lost it a bit, got banned for 8 games but it was no where near as bad as this, as others have said if you do that on the street you get done for assault

When Bobo Balde did that to Paul Fenwick the ref didn't even give a foul. Can't remember who it was and whether any retrospective punishment was dished out (doubt it very much).

Alan Freeland perfect view bottled it and we were one up at the time.

What a pointless thing to do, its not even as if he was jumping for the ball and caught the boy in the face, he deliberately ran over and lashed out. If that happened in the street he would be charged with assault, don't see why he shouldn't just because it happened on a football pitch.

So it was....he would fit in nicely with the current crop of Championship refs.

But I think that Duncan Disorderly was already on a suspended sentence following a night club brawl in Dundee at the time.

Hence the spell in jail.

Even nowadays I'm struggling to think of a worse ref than Freeland. I'm sure many people on here will remember the notorious game against Falkirk...

When we moan about current refs we sometimes forget who they learnt their trade from !

That's a particularly crass way for the club to handle this. Maybe I expected better but I thought that the club would issue a statementto say they were looking at his contract perhaps to get rid.

Aye, Latto was. He used to get some stick but he was a good guy really.

He organised a Sunday morning league for a good few years before all the leagues had to become SFA affiliated.

I never played for or against Newton Heath but I've heard of them. Did they play Saturday or Sunday?

Agreed, Freeland & Muir (both Alan's) are by far the most incompetent refs I've ever seen. Mind you IIRC Freeland was in charge for the infamous Matty Jack game!

Ricksen.

I always remember the noise from that assault was properly sickening. Can't remember if any action was ever taken.

Ricksen was fined £10,000 by Rangers, later on he was banned for 4 games by the SFA for a off the ball incident which was not seen by the ref but was caught on tv,no footage of it to be found.

Derek had a sore face after it, pretty sure he was out for a few seconds when Ricksen ran past him and smashed his elbow in to Deeks face.
