Thanks very much for posting this, will print them off and give them to my Nana, she will absolutely love them

My Dad always said he can remember the shore and the Kirkgate having similar buildings to the high street and that they wouldn't have been alowed to tear them down these days

The spirit of Leithers Facebook page is great for old photos of Leith.

some nice photos, its mental how many kids don't have shoes just walking around the street. Some parts looked utterly filthy as well.

Anyone interested in this kinda thing should look up leith living memories run by the citadel arts group. Lots of 'real life' accounts of growing up and living leith. Usually pensioner's stories so some go way way back. People I work with in the process of producing a new one at the moment.

A thing that strikes me when I see olde pictures like those in the first link are the lack of men.

Lots of kids, quite a few women. In that series of photos I think there was one adult male!

I wonder if some of that, in the 20s, is due to the huge loss of young men's lives during WW1

Are there any images of the old Hibernian Park ground?

Throughout the TT era (and more) we always stood where the red spot is.

Work/pub was my guess.

Any photos of the horse and cart parade from the last time we won the Scottish Cup, that thon Jambos are always singing about,

At least I'm sure they were singing about it... back when they used to sing.
