For no apparent reason I've suddenly had the feeling that I want one. The extra thick heel toasted and smeared thickly in lurpack butter. There can be no doubt that this will be my breakfast tomorrow morning,

The other half and I have recently binned bread from our diet as it's the sort of thing that you can eat loads of but it never makes you feel full or satisfied.

That was pan bread though and even though I haven't had plain for years, I remember it being more substantial and filling. That chewey, burnt crust was the business.

You were also sometimes lucky enough to get one of those ridiculously thick heels that wouldn't even look at a toaster. :-D

Talking about toasters, are they making the business part shorter these days as it's hard to find loaves which actually fit?

Plain loaf slices, big slices of cheese, butter and big lumps of onion, old school sandwich-tastic!

Heinz tomato soup, a pile of slices of plain bread and a glass of Irn Bru, served on a wee stool as I sit on the couch in front of the fire at my Gran and Grandad's house.

Trying to chew the bread on wobbly baby teeth and struggling badly.

Proper childhood memories.
