Found this footage and thought some of the older posters would like a look.
The footage of the players training on the park and old terrace circa 1950's without the high bank on top.
Some of the famous 5 and manager and chairman of the time.
Hope you enjoy as its my first post.

When goal-line technology was a bloke with a bucket of white powdery chalky stuff at half-time. :greengrin

It says we won the SLC in 47/48 , our first triumph in that particular tournament was in 1972 against the lesser greens.

Our latest triumph was in the SC last season of which you are probably aware :aok:.

I liked the green and white harlequin shirts with the red numbers. Was that the away shirt that season or just a training shirt?

That was terrific. Brought back memories, not specifically of Hibs but of Scottish football in general during the 1950s when I started going to games with my father.
What came flooding back was, square wooden goal posts, football boots that were all brown & came up to the ankles, goal keepers did not wear gloves, referees & lines men wore blazers & lastly great crowds.
Happy days.

Great video.

How good does the entrance with hibernian football club and the old harp above it look?

We should definitely reproduce that. Might help us win the scottish cup too.. oh, wait..we did that already

Now just waiting for some auld codger to come along and make us all furiously jealous by saying "ah yes, the first Hibs team I ever saw in the flesh, remember them well" or something......

Can't quite do that but my dear departed father in law would always tell me Gordon Smith was the best, most skillful footballer he had ever watch.

I've got this footage on an old video tape called 'Inside Easter Road' but don't have a VCR these days so haven't watched it for ages. Great stuff.

Amusing footage of Harry Swan doing the gardening in his waistcoat and tie. Looks like he lived up Liberton way? Also, all that rubble behind the East Terracing looks decidedly in breach of any health and safety regulations these days. I'm guessing that was the groundwork being laid for extending the terrace?

Great post, lovely to see those great players on good quality colour film. No idea how they got Willie Ormond to do the arm stretching thing though :)

Saw most of them and have their autographs(he said smugly).Remember Jock Govan overlapping Gordon Smith,I hadn't realised defenders were allowed over the half way line.

I understand Jock was the original overlapping fullback. Another first for Hibernian :greengrin

Wonderful stuff, and the thing that struck me is how old some of the players looked. They were guys in their 20's and many of them looked 40. Life really must have been harder back them.
