I have heard the Jolly is pretty decent for pizza though I have never tried it. Proper dough opened and stretched as the pizza is ordered can't be beaten. Some very good places about.

For pure value, Quattro. Get a "slice" at lunch time for £1. Slice is basically a 6 inch pizza.

It feels like stealing if I go in just for that, so I get a 3.50 pasta to go with it which isn't usually great and leaves me feeling too full to have a productive afternoon. :greengrin

Admittedly it was 10 years ago or more but went to Jolly and it was awful. It was a lunchtime 'deal' thing so I guess you got what you paid for but pasta was soggy and pizza looked like it had been prepared in second and shoved in the oven. Never been back.

I'm the same...I'm convinced they used cheddar for the cheese and the pizza was crap...but it was an age ago so maybe they are better now.

Anima is the pizza/pasta part of lalba doro next door. The spicy chicken pizza with chilli tomato sauce base is outstanding.

Elm row. I've never been, always thought it looks shabby from outside but might give it a go now. I absolute LOVE pizza.

:agree: the pizzas are cracking there.

If you can be bothered traveling, there's a great restaurant in Kinross called the Courthouse, I had the best pizza I've eaten there a couple of months back - it was terrific. Would definitely recommend it.

I've got family out that way, so will give it a look. Is it an Italian, or a weatherspoons type place?

A chain, but I had a great one in Pizza Express recently.

My mate does a fantastic pizza in his bread maker, but he'd probably not appreciate loads of folk piling round to his house so if you wouldn't mind not going, I'd appreciate that.

The jolly pizza's are absolutely superb. Brilliant value for money too.

My favourite place to eat in Edinburgh is Vittoria on Leith Walk.

We stayed in Brindisi when Scotland lost to Italy in Bari a few years ago, the pizzas there were very good too. :-)

Does anyone know the name of the new pizza place on leith walk, its around pilrig IIRC.....ive drove past a few times and thought ill look it up, but for the life of me cant remember the name......im on my own tonight with the bairn so thought id try one.

As for main topic, I prefer chippy pizzas than chains i.e dominos and pizza hut. Giovannis at northfield being my favourite, chicken haggid and garlic butter. Superb.

Jolly is also very good as it la fav and vittorias

Please do. I ****ing love pizza. As an aside, someone mentioned quattrozero earlier. Went for lunch earlier and had 2 courses for 6.95. Was really good, great value for money and great pizza. Slightly too much cheese to make it into my top 3 though!

I love pizza but only ever go with two or maybe three different toppings at most. Too much cheese and overloaded with toppings on a thin crispy pizza is a disaster as it becomes too wet and just flops as you pick it up. My long time favourite is a margarita with just red onion and nduja. I will at a push get added pancetta and tell them to do it crispy.

I agree. I stick to a one meat, two at a push topping rule along with one or no veg. Pizza should be simple.

Yeah I agree but recently I had a spinach and Italian sausage and it was amazing I've never seen so much spinach it was stacked it was the most filing pizza ever couldn't manage it all which is a 1st for me

I'm in Stirling but if any of you's are ever in Stirling looking for pizza the brindisi in Stirling city centre and Bruno's in Bannockburn are the only to worth looking out

Slightly different styles but both excellent

The Jolly used to be good but it's gone downhill rapidly.

These days I'd struggle to see past La Favorita or Origano for a decent pizza in Edinburgh.

Yep, happened years ago, right through the front window, their new window actually has a fire engine etched on it

Last time I was in there it was pretty shocking to be honest, much better Italians about
