Anyone find that as they get older they get a lot less bothered by football (except for Hibs of course)?

But never together surely? That would be horrific.

(I make an honourable exception for Dirk "Diggler" Lehman, the beautiful and unlikely collision of Hibs and porn).

Watch loads. English, Spanish, German, French, Champions League. I don't watch any Scottish football apart from Hibs games.

I won't go out of my way or travel to see anything other than a Hibs or Scotland game. Only watch CL when I'm free and not got anything else on. Last night for example I happily dingied the CL to go for a run with my wife then had dinner etc. 5 years ago that would have been unthinkable.

I like football, watch a fair chunk of EPL games, not that bothered about watching Sportscene mainly because the punditry is cliche-filled banality in the main.
Went to my first Bundesliga game at the weekend there, that was some experience and I'd do that again if I get the chance. I watch the CL if there's a British side involved, but not that bothered if I miss it.
Love Hibs.

I'd been going off CL football but I had a few bets on last night and watched that new programme on BT Sport - it's a bit like Soccer Saturday only they jump back and forward between games showing the goals and highlights.

I have to say I really enjoyed it and I've been off CL football for a few years now.

I like watching games like Aberdeen v The Rangers when the Huns get pumped especially by a dodgy decision. For The Rangers read Hertz as well.
Ps only when I'm not at a Hibs game.

I'm probably somewhere between 2 and 3. Obviously being displaced down in Suffolk, I don't get to see as many Hibs games as I would like to, but will clear out time to watch any Hibs game I can on the TV. Apart from that, I'm not overly fussed... If I'm in the house with nothing to do then I'll watch some PL football on TV etc.

The slight exception is that given a choice between watching PL on the TV, or going along to watch my new local team (in Sergey's favourite pub league no less!) then I'll head along and watch them!

I'm the opposite. I watch Hibs becasue they are my team and I can get to games but wouldn't watch much other Scottish football.

I used to watch non stop when I was younger. Sky probably had a positive effect at first in England and Scotland. However, as the years have rolled on Scottish football has been shafted by the TV and players are now earning ridiculous sums. The thought of giving that stain on humanity Murdoch more money is also a major reason not to subscribe or watch sky. Nowadays, I am more passionate about Hibs than I have ever been and that was the case even during Butcher. Five years out due to a young family made me feel guilty and I am so grateful I can get along to all the home games and a good chunk of the away games. Even better now I am accompanied by my two wee Hibbies.

The only football I really watch, other than Hibs, is Match of the Day occasionally and my son. I would rather watch paint dry than Barcelona etc and the pampered, rich players diving all over the park winning games for corrupt managers and filling the coffers of despicable media moguls. Apart from that tippy tappy football is so boring.

Football needs to hit the reset button and get back to the things that made it the beautiful game - Speed, guile, bravery, honesty, sportsmanship. affordable to all and community based. It is corrupt to the core and an embarrassment as a sport. Hibs are a massive exception in the cesspit. We have dignity, honesty and whilst our game isn't beautiful all the time it is our aim. We criticise our own when they dive or cheat and seem to have a balanced view on most things. Proud to be a Hibby not so proud to be a football supporter.

I used to love football and would watch 7-10 games a week but have found myself going off it more and more recently. It's got to the point now where the champions league is boring.
Got my ST back at ER after a 2 year break and I'm enjoying being back, nothing better than watching hibs at easter road.

Football is definitely now my second sport behind American Football.

I love football. I watch several games a week on tv and head along to watch ***** quality northern irish premiership and third tier games fairly regularly too. I don't really care about the outcome of any game that doesn't involve hibs though.

I clicked option 2, but I'm probably closer to option 1 than that. I'm not bothered enough about the Champions league greedfest to pay to watch it and the same goes for the Europa league now that BT sport have taken that over. But I'll watch pretty well any game on the TV like ALBA, Sportscene, MOTD and the Bundesliga highlights and even the women's world cup and Olympics.

When I was younger I watched loads, as I got older and SKY and BT etc started to saturate the market I watched less. Before I moved to the USA I mainly watched my local park side.

It probably doesn't help that I work in football so I see/talk about it all day as well so I get my fill at work. I think I have seen one game since I moved other than Hibs.

Only Hibs, every fortnight non-stop since the mid 60's and some away games including a few European trips. And any Scotland games - either on pub tv or to Hampden - and sometimes trips abroad to watch the internationals.

Watch MOTD highlights only if I know something genuinely exciting has happened and SPL highlights if Yams, Huns get beat.!

My wife wouldn't watch football so I'm not interested in having it in the house - she comes first before some grotesquely bloated EPL or Champions League games.

Did watch highlights of Parkhead game last night today - but after the Arsenal game, I got thoroughly bored.

Already getting excited about Sunday - maybe sounds a bit ridiculous but it's just The Hibees for me..

The novelty value of watching live football on TV has long since worn off, so option 3 for me which means Easter Road 5-6 times a season, Hibs if we're on TV and the occasional big game from the Premiership.

Sir David Gray
29-09-2016, 08:43 PM
I'll watch some of the big games like Manchester Utd-Liverpool, Barcelona-Real Madrid, Champions League final etc but I don't bother about most of the football that is on TV, such as the average Premiership game shown on Sky like West Brom v Hull.

The only time I have any real interest in watching a game is if Hibs are involved.

Just say Popcorn.

I love Hibs as much as I ever have - and to be truthful more than I have in some previous, recent days (Caldewood, Butcher fiascos for instance).
I've also been a fan of Barcelona since the days when the real Ronaldo was the star of Bobby Robson's team.. And I'm a member of a Fc Barcelona supporters club.
* I've never been a member of a Hibs supporters club despite being a season ticket holder for the last 27 seasons!
The only football I watch in flesh is either Hibs or Barça. By and large, the only football I watch on TV is Hibs, Barça, la Liga and the champions league(if either of my 2 teams are playing 😆).
I generally don't watch English, German, French, Dutch, Italian or Scottish live games on the box despite the fact I have the full cable sports package. I also never watch Sportscene or match of the day.

In short, I watch my 2 teams any chance I can and I watch la Liga for enjoyment.

I don't watch as much as I used to. I agree with those who have said the money in some leagues has taken the romance away. Having said that, I'll watch the bigger EPL and Champions League games, though not many now. I don't watch any of the European leagues these days.

Can only think of two players who play for our city rivals Hearts - Jamie Walker and that guy who looks like Rolf Harris.

I love football.

As I've got older other things have got in the way, work and family life etc but truth be told football is still high on my list. I don't get to as many games as I would like. Although outside Hibs i rarely if ever watch scottish football.

I'm sports daft in general.

Used to follow the game a lot but now not so much, as with the common theme here, other things take up time in your life as you get a bit older and football takes a bit of a back seat, although I do like the tactical side of the modern game and Serie A is probably my league of choice for that particular fix after Scotland. Will never stop following or watching the Hibs though! I think football is maybe 4th on my list of sports I like to watch behind Boxing, NFL and the NBA.

That pretty much sums it up for me. I also couldn't tell you who won any of those tournaments without looking it up. The only reason I know Leicester are champions of England is because it got so much publicity away from the sports pages. I couldn't name more than a handful of non-Hibs players in Scottish football these days and have no idea who's in the Scotland team.

Hibs are in the blood though and that's why I retain a connection with football, which is actually a far duller sport than many think.

I'd say I'm losing interest in football in general but my interest in Hibs has gone up since we were relegated.

Even before Rangers were allowed to die I could never have told you which of the ugly sisters had won the league the previous year.

Couldn't give a monkeys about European or International football.

Id struggle to name more than a couple of non Hibs players in Scottish football, don't think I could name any from the English leagues? Does Wayne Rooney still play? If so that's one :)

Like many on here, I used to watch every game I could as a kid before Sky.

When Sky came along I still watched it all before it got to saturation point. I still have Sky and will watch 5 or 6 games a week but what I don't do is watch the pundits. I turn it on at kick off, watch something else during the half time interval and switch it off at the final whistle. If Hoddle is co-commentating then the sound is also switched off.

I've also found other sports that I enjoy, in particular cycling and Biathlon over the winter months (fabulous sport). What I can't stand are the 'stop start' American sports that don't flow.

:greengrin I used to play a bit when I was younger and absolutely loved the game. The NBA season is soooooo long though, something like 80 odd games and a lot of it is pretty boring. I think even in the states most folk only tune in to the big games then the latter stages of the season and then the playoffs/championship games. I've been to Madison Square Garden a couple of times to watch the Knicks and the atmosphere was unbelievably impressive.

I was definitely a late bloomer - my dad took me to matches when I was about 10 and I used to be that kid that walked around in the full kit, he stopped taking me and I never followed any football at all after that pretty much all through senior school and Uni. I just heard the odd result here and there and would maybe watch Hibs Hearts on the telly if I wasn't doing anything.
I had a few Hibs mates from work and one of them offered me a ticket to Hibs v Falkirk in the semi final - yes, that game. Probably one of the better games to re-kindle any sort of passion towards Hibs and football. He even got me a ticket for the final too, which wasn't quite as good but I was kind of hooked after that.
For some reason, it wasn't until I left the UK and moved to NZ that I really looked forward to the weekend to watch/listen to Hibs play. I now stay up until 5am every Sunday morning to read the match day thread and listen to open all mics.
So I feel a bit of an impostor since I was so late to the game, but it was early enough for my heart to be beating out my chest 15 minutes before, and the duration of that game we played on the 21st of May, so I'm thankful for that.

People have lots of theories about what makes a "true fan". Lesser fans are people who have two teams, people who change teams, people who come late into the game, people who only started caring about hibs later on...all a load of bollox.

It's how much you care about your team that counts and you certainly aren't an imposter in any way, shape or form.
