Normally I can't contain my indifference to Rantic games, but on this occasion, having read, today, all the bile on FF, directed towards us because of the Invasion outcome and their wish for serious injuries to Celtic players tonight, I wouldn't object to a Celtic win, to put an end to their bad day. :greengrin

I've always doubted his sincerity as a real Hibs fan. He was fine when we were playing well several years ago and of course he was pandering to his son's fondness for Hibs. I think his support has waned over the years and has almost become indifferent. That's my impression, but I could be way off the mark.

I've never really heard him talk technically about Hibs - all his Hibs talk seems more personal and about him being a supporter.

"Dear Jambos,

My apologies for barging in on your site, I am sure it isn’t hugely welcome from a Hibs man like me but I feel I need to talk to a number of the real Hearts fans directly. This particular topic seemed strangely fitting. It was recently brought to my attention that some unacceptable comments and language had been used against some Hearts fans on line, emanating from my son’s account. First of all they did come from him or at least some of them did, so no excuse there. In fact this is an open and sincere apology to anyone who was offended.

Fair play to Celtic, given one of the best teams and biggest spenders in England a real run for their money here.

Shows the 'Celtic would be League 1 at best in England' arguments from some on social media for what they are.

Not really. Every year you get smaller teams causing upsets in Cup competitions. For example sheff utd in recent seasons, theyre rightfully playing in league 1 the following weekend.

If Celtic had access to the funds available in England they would be a top 6-8 club.

This isn't all about bumming up Celtic either. Rangers, Hibs, Hearts and Aberdeen are all far bigger clubs than a lot of the money bloated clubs in the Championship and a few of the EPL ones into the bargain.

Cant argue with the fan base argument (unfortunately); but based on current squad ability i dont see anything in Celtic that makes me think they would be premier league standard.

Gordon, Toure & Sinclair?

Not a huge deal between them, Barton, Kranjcar, Hill & Senderos IMO.

With the exception of Sinclair who has had one good EPL season for Swansea, all i would classify has past it or crocked.

Shining lights for Celtic have to be Dembele, and also the Danish CB despite the 3 goals. Best CB ive seen in Scotland since Bougherra & Cuellar.

I don't really give a toss about Celtic's fortunes in Europe either way ... they lose we all get a laugh, they win its good for the rest of us, but whenever a Scottish club plays one of the billy big baws from the EPL its pleasing to see them get a result, if for no other reason than it shows them that the likes of Celtic dominate the league up here because they are actually hard to beat and not just because everybody else is Ertha Kitt.

As for the atmosphere ..... If you cant get 60,000 folk to make a noise in games against the biggest clubs in Europe, and especially an English one, then there's something wrong with you.

We sometimes really are a hard stuck up bunch when it comes to giving credit to rival teams aren't we? I don't mind Celtic doing well in Europe at all and was willing them to win yesterday. Say what you want with whatever spin on it, drawing with Man City and leading twice is some going. It raises the profile slightly in Scotland, and the Scottish players like Gordon, Tierney (top player in the making btw) Forrest, Griffiths, get great exposure/a wonderful learning experience.

I hate them as much as the next Hibee, but don't mind them doing well in Europe. I will be honest though and say I can't muster up those same feelings for Rangers/Hearts though. Nope!

The downside of doing well in Europe, however, is that it strengthens and perpetuates their monopoly of Scottish football. Try a bit harder to hate them more. Ironically, last night I wasn't particularly miffed at their relatively successful performance, as I knew that, in addition to their fury at yesterday's outcome of the Cup Final debacle, the Sevco fans, expecting them to be well and truly turned over by MC, would be seething at the result. Ah, life's little pleasures. :greengrin

Well it's a double edged sword isn't it? Truth is, Celtic could fail to qualify for Europe for the next X amount of years and the likelihood is although not to the same extent, they'd still be financially too strong for the rest.

However they (along with all Scottish clubs) do well in Europe, then the possibility of more European places for the SPL open up later on. More places = more chance for others to have a crack and potentially land a much needed cash windfall. Hibs fall in to this 'more chance' category.

As I say though, double edged sword, as they truly are the other side of the cheek that is the old firm.
