Honestly can't wrap my head around how these people think:

Disgraceful act.
We all know that this type of bullying has been going on forever.
Kids beaten up for reigious reasons, wearing glasses, having the wrong colour of hair, ethnic minority, etc.

I suppose my point is that cowards such as these will pick on anybody for any reason.

Like all bullies they'll pick on the wrong person one day.

Contemptible behaviour.

Horrible.

Anti-racism is pushed hard in all schools but if adults at home or in the community are racist there are kids who take on racist views and act on them. Hopefully they feel the full force of the law.

Obviously this particular attack was racist, but bullies will use any excuse to pick on people. We've probably all come across lowlife like this at some point.

The boy getting attacked had just moved to my daughters school to get away from the 2 boys who were bullying him.

Feel so sorry for him. The video was going around the whole school within hours.

Surprised its taken this long for the boys to be charged, & also surprised that the school don't really seem to be doing anything much about it.

You wonder what he sees and hears at home from his parents. Children just don't become like this on their own.

the 2 boys coming across to find him at his new school is just out of order.

My daughter says the boy whos getting bullied is just a normal quiet guy, not like he's done anything to provoke it

Not seen the video and I dont want to. But presuming it's what I expect it to be I hope someone a whole lot bigger and stronger than them gives them an absolute doing and makes them feel equally as helpless.

It would be a normal quiet guy. People like that never want to fight with like minded people.

That was my reaction when I seen the video but after calming down, and realising violence begets viloence, I wonder if the kids need taken away from home to realise that there are other options when growing up,,,,you don't have to be the low-life your dad is. This is in reference to one of the boys, whose dad is no more a father than a sperm donor and who has often been on the wrong side of the law and handy with his fists!

I doubt that these kids are being taught to be bullies at home. Like all kids they crave attention and recognition, that's what's missing in these kid's home environment and that's what they get out of bullying others. That said not all kids whose behavioural needs are ignored at home turn out to be bullies but they will need recognition from somewhere and help redirecting their frustrations. It's parental indifference that creates monsters and these kids parents are the real culprits behind this odious behaviour.

Hopefully he'll find some peace at your daughter's school. Living in fear of violence is intolerable at any age, but for children with limited options to avoid it, it's heartbreaking.

He's not been back to school.

He only moved to my daughters school this term because of the bullying he was getting from the same boys at the last school.

Think the school should be bending over to help him, & hammering home an anti bullying, anti racist message, but my daughter says nothing like that's happened.

Without knowing the circumstances it hard to say, but you're right - probably not "taught" as such, but almost certainly shown by example, if that's the right word.

Not getting what you want? Fists and abuse is the way to go. Don't understand something? Shout and swear at it. Someone not doing what they're told? Thump, insult and belittle.

If you live in an environment of stupidity, meanness and violence, its hardly surprising that the learned behaviour adopted tends to be the same. it isn't what happens to everyone, so its not a rule, but its clear to me that the most unpleasant, violent, bigoted sc*mbags come from a family where being an unpleasant, violent, bigoted sc*mbag is the norm.

Surely it's the two bullies who should be made to go to another school. One where they feel like outsiders would be perfect.

If it's the same headline as I'm thinking about then I would happily do time in exchange for exacting my own revenge. This is probably because I have absolutely zero faith in our justice system to dish out appropriate punishments. A girl was recently put through a two day ordeal by a beast in Dunfermline and while some headlines said he was "jailed for life", the punishment element of his sentence was only four years. So after four (backdated) years, this guy could be walking the same streets as the victim should others decide it's ok. It must be infuriating and heartbreaking for victims and their families.

As for the bullied kid, I wonder how his family feel about how the authorities have dealt with this. When this sort of thing arises, there's a very flip-floppy, touchy feely procedure that treats the bullly with just as much sympathy as the victim. It's a lot easier to uproot the bullied kid than it is the perpetrators and schools basically don't like things like this on their record or bad marks such as unexplained absences. This long winded process of trying to understand the bully results in the victim losing a little bit more confidence and self esteem every day while it drags on...and the really sad part is that it's probably none of his fault.

There's no shortage of depressing stuff in the news but the closeness of this to home is particularly depressing.

I hate this 5hit. Absolutely hate it.

The poor, poor kid.

Fine, the bullies will be punished but this is one of those sickening situations where everyone loses.

How is this still happening? Seriously?

Does anyone know the family affected by this horrible attack? I wonder if we could reach out and make a small act that shows that people in Edinburgh care. I'd be happy to contribute, perhaps others would too? And get (say) to an offer of 3-4 hospitality tickets to one of our games. It would be enough to get the kid and his parents and a chum to a day out at ER. They may not be Hibs fans or even football fans, but a nice day out with some food and hopefully some goals thrown in might at least make the boy and his family know, people of Edinburgh care about them ..

Anybody up for that ??

Superb Guys. fantastic support as always. I'm also delighted to say that @franksuzy has agreed to use the Leith Links Paypal account as a place for us to make the donations.

The paypal address is [email protected]. Suzy asks that we simply make a reference on it to show that it is a donation for this specific cause. Can I suggest we use Holy/Child/ER as a reference - to make it stand out from other kicks for kids donations.

I'll make mine now to get the ball rolling. It would be really helpful if you could also DM me with your donation amount, just so that I can keep track.

Thanks for all the support so far. If you could share it with anyone who doesn't venture on to the Holy Ground board too, that would be much appreciated.

All the best guys,

Wonderful idea Martin and true Hibernian spirit. :aok:

As for sharing the plan, maybe it's best to make a thread on the PM board.

There is also the strong possibility of the family saying thanks but no thanks due to the nature of the incident and natural (and totally understandable) tendency to keep their head down and circle the wagons afterwards. The important thing is letting them know that we are supporting them but if this is the case then I'd have no problem with the cash staying with kicks for kids.

I don't know them from Adam but another possibility is that the boy might be one of the 400,000. If this is the case then I'd have no problem with the cash being used to buy his family hospitality for the other side, as this is bigger than inter-city rivalries IMO.

Pete, Thanks for your kind donation, superb!

I have taken your idea and also made a post about this on the PM Board. Great idea..

On your last point, I'd hope the gesture is accepted. However, it will be, of course, the family's choice. In the event that they decline, my mindset would be to perhaps offer the donation to a charity of their choice. That said, I think we could leave that for discussion should the event arise..For now, let's hope we see them laughing and smiling at some great Hibs hospitality :aok:

When I saw the heading, I thought that this was a story that I heard last week. Unfortunately, the one that I heard was much worse.

It was a racist attack on a boy of mixed race outside Leith Academy when 6 thugs set on him, his two friends and his younger sister with metal bars. The boy and one of his friends were taken to hospital.

To make the incident even worse, the attack was directed by the mother of one of the thugs.

I can't see that it has appeared in the media but it surely will when it comes to trial.

A further update on this ...

I'm delighted to say that with the help of Amit and the club we have made successful contact with the family. They have been warmly touched by the offer and as a result they are coming to hospitality at an up and coming game ...

Due to the sensitivity of this I don't want to say publicly which game ...I'm hesitant as I don't want any publicity around this event to protect the boy and his family ...

The family have let us know that they feel this is just the "tonic" the boy and his family needed...it feels like we have got this action right..

I am also very pleased to say that as the fans have pulled together the cost of hosting the family, the club have also been very supportive and helpful for this event .

Can I take this time to thank all of you who contributed..it is exactly what makes the Hibs family stand out from any other crowd.

Cheers

Martin

Cheers

Martin

Thanks for the update Martin, a great outcome and well handled by you and club.

Some xmas cheer to report after a disappointing result ...I'm delighted to report the young boy and his family were hosted today at the game . Lovely group who enjoyed their day. Hibs scarfs on. The club gave a little gift of some souvenirs to the young boy. Amit was kind enough to arrange them to get into the directors lounge and get their pic taken with the Scottish cup ... and they were also delighted after the game to grab a pic with their favour player Jason Cummings...

Everyone who supported deserves huge respect - we did a good thing , and for all the right reasons . Thank you all so much.

Great respect to you all. [emoji122][emoji122][emoji122][emoji122][emoji122]

I don't know you. I sit in the West. I contributed more in hope than anything else.

I'm absolutely delighted the family took the offer up.

You did a very good thing organising this.

Thank you.
