For as long as I can remember travelling back from following Hibs around the country, when the football was finished on Radio Scotland, Robbie Shepherd's dulcet tones would then follow for "Take the Floor".
I maybe never managed a full show, but a good few jigs and reels would be listened to before eventually admitting defeat and switching channels. Despite Robbie Shepherd retiring, a new presenter will carry on with the show, but for Scottish football fans travelling home on Saturday nights, it just won't be the same..!

Seems to have been on forever, (and never sounded any different, nor has his music) certainly as far back as I can recall so must have been doing it since at least early 80s, how old is he? I always imagined him as a really old guy even back then but he can't have been unless he's reached an improbable age!

Not keen on the music but his show has always been legendary as in " turn that ***** off " just after off the ball/sportssound finished

I think that's exactly how you were supposed to think of it mate ... job done Robbie :aok:

We usually make it home while sportsound is still on these days, but back in the day we used to stop on the way back and when we got back in the car 'take the floor' was just coming on, my passengers weren't fans of the show so I used to put it on and crank up the volume ..... I still get a wee bit nostalgic when I think about it.

No matter what you think of the music you cant beat a guid Ceilidh or a wedding with a few strip the willows or gay Gordons :greengrin

Enjoy your retirement Robbie ya wee legend http://www.hibs.net/images/smilies/not%20worthy.gif
