Good. About time someone stood up for the smaller countries. Best of luck to him.

Are you sure?

It reads from the article that he is standing up for the changes and will be taking on the collection of leagues/clubs who have called for it to scrapped.

The article isn't very clear though.

Edit: Seems from other articles that he might look to re-do the deal.

He's kidding himself on if he thinks that the big clubs in the big leagues will allow him to boss them around. They will just walk from UFEA and form their own association. When football sold its soul to the TV companies there was always going to be a price to be paid. If your not from a country with a large population which can contribute further to a TV deal you'll not be invited to play.

First thing to scrap is teams dropping out of the Champions League and into the Europa League!

Yes, but eventually many smaller nations will be leaving Uefa if things keep going the way they are. Quite a task to keep everyone happy.

Tried finding out online but it was not very clear.

The clubs from Italy, England, Spain and Germany get 4 guaranteed places, but do they also have the possibility of a fifth place as well through the qualifying route?

Anyone know?

If he does anything to change the fact that it's the same old teams in the same old tournament every year, then he gets my vote !

Maybe at least re-name the competition, the Big Rich Clubs Cup, or something, at least that way they can keep the format and just spend money on re-branding :agree:

Lets not pretend this league is anything other than a cash cow for UEFA and the clubs. To be the genuine "Champions" League it should be the winners of every top division of every country in Europe, end of story.

Reinstate the Cup Winners Cup, let the 2nd/3rd/4th place teams drop into the UEFA cup and then make this only for Champions of the domestic leagues.

Totally agree, it should only be for champions, it's ridiculous that a 4th place club gets straight in and champions of other leagues have a number of qualifying games. Your suggestion would also raise the profile of the other competitions too. Doesn't matter if matches are one sided, you win the championship you should qualify ahead of others who didn't.

The TV championship. Purely for teams with big pull revenue wise. All games played closed doors to drive up the viewing numbers.

The Champions league will never ever, ever, ever go back to being just for the champions. Just to save anyone else typing it. [emoji3]
Change will be coming soon enough but there is no way we are going back to that.
