Seen this. Apparently he wants to be closer to family so is heading back to Europe.

Did he not have a child with a Dunfermline stripper? Maybe he wants to be closer to them and can sign for us.. 👀

He wasn't at all. One of the best defenders we had in years.

But he was! Like every defender, had their moments but he was a very good player for us.

I can recall an outstanding period of form early in John Hughes' reign where Bamba was genuinely imperious, forming a rock solid partnership with Hogg and getting called up to the Ivory Coast squad. He also had some interesting games as a defensive midfielder under Mixu.

Unfortunately I can recall a few horror shows as well, but it was impossible not to love the guy. Had the tools to be a top defender and, on his day, he was. Wouldn't get into our current defence though.

Honestly can't remember any bombscare moments from him, thought he was a great defender!

1 thing I do remember is that when the news broke that we had signed him, I was listening to sports sound on the radio. That helmet Preston started pissing himself laughing slating how bad he was! Couldn't believe how unprofessional he was being! Especially given that he was an agent.

Agreed. Would walk into our team ahead of McGregor at CB, as much as I like McGregor. Would also walk into our team as a holding midfielder which he was immense at when he was here before.

Like all good players we've had, his boat has sailed. Thanks for the memories. No more back-to-the-future players please.

The thing I remember about big Sol is that he so often found himself out of position and was able to save the situation because of his strength and pace, the number of times I saw him get out of a hole he had dug for himself by making a tackle using his 'wrong' leg was amazing. Few players I have seen were so bad at being in the right place, but so good at making it not matter.

He could still do a job for us without doubt ...... but I'll eat my cup final programme if he turns up at East Mains :greengrin

There's a thread on FF weighing up whether he is good enough for them and whether they should go after him. Arrogant tossers.

Nonsense.

He has played for some good teams since he left and is arguably as good as hanlon and mcgregor if not better so not really nonsense

He came with the bombscare reputation but imo it really wasn't merited based on what he did in a Hibs shirt.

He did have a couple of really ropey games at right-back, which was clearly not his position and I think he managed most of his biggest mistakes in those couple of games.

He was really good at defensive mid for us but was also a really solid centre-back.

I've always considered the bombscare business to be a bit of a myth - I've seen him make the kind of spectacular, howling mistake he's capable of whilst playing for other teams but I honestly didn't ever see it when he was with us.

There was a thread on here a couple of years ago asking folk to make up their best Hibs XI from the previous decade. Bamba was CH in mine.

Bamba had a lot of ropey moments at dunferelined but he was very young. Great player for Hibs. I liked him at CH but thought he was a cut above at def mid.

Had all the attiubutes you'd want and was immense in midfield. Very shaky at the back.

I remember his debut against Dundee United. He was on a booking and a red card waiting to happen...and it happened. Still utterly baffled whu Mixu never took him off. Got away with a couple before the ref finally gave in and sent him off.

People thinking the Leeds Utd captain couldn't get a game for us are mad! He is only 31, the same age as McGregor. Sorry, I like McGregor but Bamba would walk into our team.

Bamba is the best centre half i have seen in a Hibs shirt since John Blackley. I have seen enough bomb scare moments from Hibs central defenders over the years, including our current Scottish cup heroes to say without doubt, he'd walk into this team now.

I have not seem him play in few years, at Hibs he was strong/fast! I don't think we need him now. But I assume he I still a good player and he wil get a good move. I'd imagine he is not off a level of Grant Hanley who just got purchased for 6 million 😂😂😂

Dunfermline seriously mishandled Bamba, and he gained a reputation there. Pundits were laughing when we signed him, and he was lauded as one of the signings of the season by the end of the year. He could go wandering on occasion, and gave Hogg a lot of work at times, but he had real quality and athleticism.

Some more good news today. Sol Bamba returned to Cardiff City first team and came on as a late sub, only four months after being diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma
