View Full Version : Ls testimonial v turriff united

Given that both of these are on 3rd Sep & it is a 3 1/2 hour drive. Does sentiment come into it & LS doesn't play, you would also think most of his team mates will be at the dinner also. Or does NL remain professional & play a full strength team. Or is it the U 20s who turn out for this.

Has to be the youngsters with maybe a few fringe players. We keep saying we're a premier league team in the championship. Well the premier league teams are under 20's so let's do the same.

He has already stated that he is sending a strongish team up to face Turrif. It will be a mix of first team players and under 20s. I'd expect shinnie and Graham to travel as they're just in the door and won't know Stevenson very well. Insall might get a run out too.

If it's moved to the Sunday expect a poor travelling crowd. Work and school on the Monday for many. Turrif will want this played on the Saturday.

For a social event that seems to have been planned on a day set aside for a cup tie? No chance.

Yep, I expect it to be on the Saturday & for us to play a Birmingham City type team with a few extra youngsters included. Would like to be there!

We`ve known since we lost in Falkirk more than 3 months ago that we`d be in this tournament and I think for at least a couple of months that we`d start on weekend of 3rd/4th ( or have a league match like last season on international weekends ) so can`t really expect date to be changed . Have many happy memories of pre season games against Highland League teams in the 70s and 80s ( midweek in Dingwall , Nairn and Brora with smaller crowds then big crowds on Saturdays against Inverness teams ) and it`s a pity that this game may become devalued since it`ll be a big thing for Turiff and a great day out for Hibs fans . I suspect it may be televised on Friday or other midweek night which will mean a maximum of 100 Hibs fans ( if well-promoted could be well over 500 Hibs fans on a Saturday afternoon and more locals and neutrals ) .

Hibs aren't going to embarrass themselves by asking for a postponement of a game against Turriff United because they can't put there strongest team out. It's a big fixture for Turriff, a meaningless one for us.
As an aside Turriff would be near the top of my why bother visiting there list.

I don't see why we'd risk any sorts of injuries to key players by sending them to this game in a *****y wee cup. Send the 20s and be done with it.

Anyone that needs game time should go. Fyvie, Shinnie, new goalie, Graham, Boyle, Forster, maybe even Holt.

The team selection shouldn't be influenced by the fact that there's a night out.

Depends if if the club want out of this tourney. Turriff are one of the best Highland League teams managed by Ross Jack x Elgin City. If they play the youngsters they will get beat no doubt about that

Farcical and unprofessional if we send the reserves because there's a night out organised.

What if the reserves are good mates with Lewis? Not very fair on them?

If we play the reserves because it is something that he planned to do in this tournament to keep players fresh, then fine.

If we play the reserves because the players have a night out planned, that would be a joke. I don't think Lennon will take that in to consideration whatsoever when deciding what kind of squad will travel.

Sir David Gray

Regardless of whether or not we send up a first team or not, I'm assuming Lewis Stevenson won't be playing.

It would be a wee bit gutting for those who have bought tickets for his testimonial dinner, if the guest of honour doesn't turn up. :greengrin

Lennon has already said he will be sending a strongish team up to face Turrif. Shinnie and Graham will be two of them as they need the match fitness. I would also suggest the new goalie if he ever gets a work permit!

Possibly would be but can't see why a dinner that appears to have been arranged for a match day would be a reason for a kick off change.

My view is that we should always have been playing our under-20s in this competition. We need to keep this distraction away from the 1st-team squad.

The testimonial dinner is therefore irrelevant.

How many people who would otherwise have gone will now stay at home because the game is on TV? A few dozen probably.

Meanwhile far more of us who couldn't make the trip will have the chance to watch the game whilst still being able to do other things on the day.

I hope that Turriff get a fee for the game being televised though.

I honestly don't see many first team players playing in the match on Sunday, in fact I don't see many of them being included in the squad at all.

It will be made a mixture of youth and fringe players who are playing so the first team players should all be able to make the dinner.
