So I started a podcast.

The first guest on "The Donagh Corby Show" was Sean Murdoch, former Hibs goalie, who was second choice to Ben Williams during that horrible relegation season. In a really intriguing chat, Murdoch tells me about exactly what went on behind the scenes that year.

Personally, I think this is one of my best interviews yet. I really hope you like it and please suggest who you'd like to hear next.

Good work, Donagh, the interview flowed nicely and some decent inside info as well.

Keep up the good work, mate.

Thanks Man(go Kid). I was quite surprised when I heard some of the stuff myself, especially the one about no bad eggs.

Well done on this podcast. Very entertaining and put together. Certainly did connect the dots that most Hibs fans suspected re that terrible duo. Keep up the good work.

Good stuff, interesting to hear, what we all thought, that the Butcher team wasn't given any game plan !

I'm afraid I couldn't make the final! Possibly for the best considering my record haha!

Didn't the excuse the obvious lack of effort and allowing the heads to go down in game after game, though, IMO.

It doesn't excuse it but it helps you understand where the players were mentally. Told they weren't good enough, will be out of a job, give no direction on match day, poor training, results getting worse, fans on your back. They would have all probably been totally demoralized, and while some of them probably continued to give 100%, it's just never going to be enough when your boss doesn't care at all about you or the team.

Just listening now. good interview, but anything mentioning the latter half of that season, and how Butcher managed to single handedly run our club into the championship puts me into an angry, dark place.

To counter this, I think i'll need to load up the scottish cup final after. Normally works.

Good stuff as always. It does show how important it is to get the right manager into the job. There was a real failure to find out about Butcher, who had failed everywhere except Inverness.

Can't believe he's 31 - was only yesterday he was a 'promising young laddie' for us ??. Having said that, personally I feel he's wasted his talent and career by paying the majority of it at a club where regular honours are more or less given to them by the GFA and it's officials !

Are you sure you're thinking of the right player?

Very revealing interview which confirms what we all knew. Butcher didn't have a Plan A never mind a Plan B. Total fud of a manager.

Think he might be thinking of Sean Welsh, now with Partick. A lot seemed to think he was our next big thing, had a torrid time with injuries. Not helped by Martin breaking his jaw in training.

I think he says there that he personally fell out of love with the club and he, along with many others, knew he wouldn't be at the club next year. I think in any walk of life if your boss says to you with 4 months left in your contract "There is not a hope you're keeping your job when that contract is up" and then goes around telling people the same thing then you would struggle to care too.

A good listen :aok:

Pretty well confirms everything we thought about Butcher .... A style of management that involved kicking the players up the arse with no actual thought given to tactics or what the opposition would do, a style that obviously doesn't work in modern football and why its unlikely any club will employ a dinosaur like him after Newport County.

The only positive about any club having a manager like him is that once he's gone the only way is up.

But when opportunity knocks - answer at the first ring ;)

Great stuff! I know your video stuff is more chance moments grabbing players after games but...

If you ever get the chance to sit down with a few of the legends and get them to take us through their thoughts during the key moments as you play it back on screen (hoping we've done that for the dvd but just in case) that would see viewer numbers go through the roof.

Really interesting and massively telling. "We all knew we had two games to win" (or three to draws as you put it so eloquently) but the players felt there was no game plan thats when a good manager steps up Shirley!

Good for him describing what going on in the background as Hibs plummeted down the League - a sad story of useless management which set the Club back so far.

There is nothing in the interview that hasn't been said before and I don't think Murdoch comes out of it particularly well. We all know that Butcher and Malpas were a car crash but that team failed to take responsibility. From what I remember he was part of the 'venga bus' which was full of players that simply let us down.

The Captain....

Really interesting listen, thanks for taking the time to record it.

Refreshing honesty from Sean as well, I thought he was very fair to all involved without being disrespectful. Butcher is one of my most disliked personalities in football. Him and Malpas were bullies who took the huff when their prehistoric methods failed to work. They were working their ticket weeks before we went down and couldn't have cared less if we were relegated.

Keep up with the interviews/podcasts Donagh, you have a talent for getting people talking imo, which isn't always easy.
