This has been part of Indian culture for a very long time, and it's entirely wrong (and indeed racist) for Westerners to suggest that there's anything wrong in it.

Not sure if you are serious and apologies if I'm having a "whoosh" moment. It's not racist to suggest something is wrong or stupid due to cultural relativism. FGM is unequivocally wrong for example but is established in some cultures.
