According to official site. (http://www.hibernianfc.co.uk/fixtures)

I think Hibs score should always be first anyway, but as long as it's done home and away, they should try to get it right.

1 draw and 1 defeat in 7 games for preseason is going!

Even better when you consider we played Brondby twice, Motherwell once, Birmingham once and Shrewsbury once, all of which would be considered at a better level than we are at.

Still, cant believe they got the Shrewsbury result wrong lol

Nothing changes on fishul site, always getting it wrong somewhere.

Oops!!

Personally I think they should always put the Hibs score first anyway. There is a home and away column to denote who was at home.

Disagree. Putting results with the home team first is the recognised standard for documenting football results. To go against that would be unnecessary and, to me, would look a bit amateur.

It doesn't really matter really, its just a preference but believe me as someone who has collected thousands of football programmes its been done both ways on a wide scale over the years.

I think this is how they used to do it, up until a few years ago? May be remembering incorrectly though.

This.

Just to confuse matters it's the opposite in America.

It would be written Hibernian @ Shrewsbury Town, with the score being 4-1

To me the way Hibs have it on the website now is misleading, and goes against the norm of how most clubs list scores on their website. Over the years the Hibs match programme would normally have listed the Hibs score first regardless of whether we are home and away.

If it’s a Hibs website/publication, then it seems obvious to me that the Hibs score should always be first.

I’d be surprised if you can find many clubs that list the score the way Hibs do now.

what's misleading? It says shrewsbury Away - 1-4 Obviously that means Hibs won 4-1 as they were away:confused:

That is confusing - not sure why they are doing that either.

This is a bug bear of mine.
Unless my memory is playing up, Hibs score always came first, whether playing home or away.
The fact that the fixture is indicated home or away tells you all you need to know.
By putting Hibs score first it is so much easier to read quickly. Sequences, like unbeaten runs, are instantly deciphered.
Get it sorted. Who started this annoying trend?

Me too. The home results are posted as they would be in on BBC Sport, for instance - Hibernian v Motherwell 4-1 - and the away results likewise - Shrewsbury v Hibernian 1-4.

If the Shrewsbury result looks bad - what a shocker against Edinburgh City ....

To put one or two minds at rest, originally the official site had the score the other way round hence the OP, its now been changed. :greengrin

There then ensued a debate about which way round scores should be displayed and which way round they were traditionally presented.

Not the biggest deal in the world but you know how we like to get into things on message boards :greengrin

Can someone post an image from a match programme in the early 70s to show how it was done then please?

I seem to recall it was always Hibs score first and you can quickly see how we hardly ever lost a match.

Well its misleading because listing the Hibs score second for away games is a relatively new phenomenon.

Historically the Hibs website and matchday programme would always put the Hibs score first. The same way that lots of teams still do:

http://www.dafc.co.uk/fixtures.php?SID=First+Team (http://www.dafc.co.uk/fixtures.php?SID=First+Team)
http://www.celticfc.net/fixtures (http://www.celticfc.net/fixtures)
http://ictfc.com/info/matches/fixture-list (http://ictfc.com/info/matches/fixture-list)

and the Fantastic Hibs stats page also does the same - http://www.fitbastats.com/hibs/team_results_season.php (http://www.fitbastats.com/hibs/team_results_season.php)

Hibs are now doing it differently and I’m sure it has been a fairly recent change.

The comparison with the BBC website doesn’t work because it always lists both teams - as you can see here http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/hibernian/fixtures (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/hibernian/fixtures)

This is something that of course doesn’t really matter, but I can see why there is confusion, as the person who originally updated the Hibs website with the Shrewsbury result will surely testify :greengrin

As has been pointed out already, the result was published as 4-1. It was subsequently changed to 1-4 (probably as a result of this thread)
